Would I be able to get into Princeton.

By on August 23rd, 2011

Okay, so my dream school is (as noted by the title) Princeton. The only thing is I don’t want to apply to Princeton only to get denied-the cost for applications is relatively expensive. o.o” So here are my “credentials” that may help determine if I get in or not. (Note: I know, things aren’t for sure, but I just want to see if I have any chance.)

GPA (unweighted): 3.93
GPA (weighted): 5.6ish
ACT score: 30 (I didn’t study, have more than 5 hours of sleep, and finished exams the day before soooo, yeah I’m retaking lol)
SAT Subject: I’m taking U.S. History (bam. Easy.), Literature and I’m between Math 1 and Math 2. (Oh, I’m taking these in early October :P)
Extracurriculars: Science Honors Club-I was the Secretary, Optimist, Best Buddies, World Religions-I was the Secretary, NHS, the Jewish Awareness Club, volunteer hours 100+ (volunteered at Soup Kitchens, the public library, and at nursing homes), Social Studies Honors Club, and Math Honors Club.
Gender (if it matters): Female
Ethnicity (again, if that matters): Hispanic/White
Rank: Somewhere in the top ten-I don’t know for sure yet.
AP scores: 5’s on Lang and APUSH, a 4 on APHG, and a 2 on Chem. (Trust me, our teacher sucked; no one passed. We all tried to learn but.as you can tell. ><)
I live in FL, by the way.

I'm really interested in writing, so I'm sending in a portfolio of writing samples, along with a photography portfolio. (Would that make a difference or no.) I'm also applying to UF, College of William and Mary, John Hopkins University, University of Pennslyvania, (maybe Emory University), and Cornell University (mainly because I have Alumni relations ;p). I was thinking about Vanderbilt, but it seems a bit too expensive and I'm really hoping I can get scholarships. @.@" By the way, does that seem to be too many colleges. *clueless*
*Pennsylvania (Sorry, I was always type the "l" before the "y" by accident. ><"

Is it ALRIGHT to design a commercial kitchen (in restaurants) on second floor.

By on August 21st, 2011

I know it is not ideal but what if the lot is too small that there is not enough space for a kitchen in a fine dining restaurant, assuming that the kitchen is supposed to take 1/3 of the total dining area.

Little brown bugs in my snake cage.

By on August 20th, 2011

I was getting my snake out of it’s cage and I noticed these little light brown bugs, they moved quite fast for there size in the wood chip substrate, well I declared war on them, I cleaned out the entire cage with <5% bleach mixed with a lot of water, and washed it with a toothbrush, I removed most of the cage furniture and the cage is a basic layout now, I rubbed olive oil onto my snake all over and wiped of with a dry kitchen towel, but now I think about it I don’t know if they actually were mites or some other bug.

My cat sometimes sleeps in my room, so they could come from her, I have washed all my sheets, I don’t understand how they got into the cage, I am always very careful to wash my hands correctly and never take her outside, I have also just moved house so I don’t know if that has anything to do with it.

Also I haven’t noticed any in her water bowl or on my actual snake

Any help is appreciated

Hi - if anyone can help.
Love the wallpaper on tonights DIY SOS, the red, yellow and orange shapes on the cream background that the designer used in the computer room (for the mum) off the kitchen.

I haven’t worked out how to reply on here as I’m new too this. Thanks for your answers in advance :)

do they make exterior doors without a sloping frame @ bottom.

By on August 18th, 2011

I have an enclosed back porch where we take off shoes, coats, etc. It has a storm door and a wooden door on it. We usually leave it unlocked so packages and other things can be put in there while we are gone. The actual door into my house is more like an interior door. It sounds hollow and is light weight and I don’t feel safe. I bought an exterior steel door at lowes with the 6 window panes in it and was going to put it as my entry door into the home, off of the back porch. I felt like it would make me feel more secure and it has a deadbolt too. We realized that the frame that came with it has a sloping bottom, as if to shed water. The problem is, our floor in the kitchen (which is where you enter the house at from the back enclosed porch) is perfectly level with the back porch, therefor a slope won’t do. Do they make exterior doors that are prehung that have a level frame around it. What are my options for an interior door that will be secure and has a flat pre-hung frame. I could always put the new door on the entry to the backporch and keep it locked as well as the interior door into the kitchen but that’d mean i’d have to open 3 locks just to get into my house. I don’t live in a dangerous area, i live in a rural area. But i still want to be safe. This is our first home and we’re trying to DIY. Thanks for the help.

Kitchen design help- have red retro 50’s counter top- any creative suggestions.

By on August 17th, 2011

So my house was built in 1953 & is a fallout shelter. So when I say retro- I really mean retro. At the moment here’s my problem- the kitchen. The cabinets are med/light wood & in very good condition- most of the drawers are made of metal except for the front which is the matching wood. The counters, which are in excellent condition, are RED formica with a matching 4″(.) tall back splash with ribbed aluminum trim that runs along the top of the back splash and around the counter edges. The walls in the kitchen, they have plastic tile running up 1/2 the wall and on the wall that my appliances sit, it runs to the ceiling. They are a gross baby blue but I have found a specialty paint & painted them beige (I know- boring.) until I could figure out what to do. On the wall space that’s between the upper & lower cabinets the paint would not stick for some reason to the tiles so we put up the plastic “tin” ceiling/wall tiles. Not my fave but it works for now. I would love to rip out the entire kitchen & start fresh however my bank account says that will not be possible anytime soon. Soooo.what should I do. I need some creative cost effective do-it-your-self ideas. My hubby is super handy & has a whole army of tools so we can handle most anything. But honestly I’m stumped on this one. I have searched for hours online & the only color schemes I can find that go with the red counters are yellow, powder blue, black, & white. I’m really, really not feeling the yellow or blue. I’ll throw out a couple of my ideas- be honest- let me know what you think.
1) Keep the red counter & paint the cabinets (colors: white uppers, black lowers. Super shiny finish. Any ideas.)
2) Re-paint the ugly you-can-tell-it’s-cheapy-plastic-tile or cover it with ribbed tin (like Chipotle has on the walls)
3) Re-place the counter top & lose the 50’s-esque feel of the kitchen
4) Cut the centers out of the upper cabinet doors & put in some kind of steel insert w/ a pattern. I would do glass but I don’t think it would go.

So let me know if you have any suggestions. I have people that walk in to my house & are in awe of this kitchen & just love it- I don’t hate it but I just don’t love it. I’m not opposed to the red counter but I need a way to up-date this kitchen. Like I said earlier- I would love to put in new granite counters & the whole shebang but it’s just not in the cards right now. I need to work with what I have because the bathroom, entryway, front door, 3 bedrooms, & 60% of the basement are still in need of work. Shortage of both time & money. Thanks for any help.

What Do You Think of my book :).

By on August 16th, 2011

I started it today :) and also I have a quick question I was thinking of making her share the kingdom with an other roayal familly , then she will with the other famillies son get lost in the jungle or something, ot making her go to school with real ppl X) which is better .

I just woke up; the sun lit perfectly the marble floor. I got out of bed; I was still in my fancy nightgown. I sat down in front of my window, and looked outside. I could see my hue garden with all the gardeners working. I was still tired, but being part of the royal St Evernest family I guess this is what I get.
After getting dressed in my usual Monday dress, brushing my short straight brown hair, and choosing what precious neck lass I was going to wear today, I looked into my mirror. I wondered how I could be a princess, in all these books father read to me when I was four, what I could remember was; all princesses always had long, hair, were so nice to everyone, loved helping others, and last but not least had a prince charming… Well, yes I do live in a castle, but I have short hair, not long, short, and if there was a princess of the year contest I would probably loose. I started walking around, looking at my red, white, and golden furniture. I turned around a couple of times, and then slipped. Stupid marble floor. I stood back up and started hitting the floor with my left foot when then I heard someone at the door. “Princess Rosalinda. May I come in.” a man voice said. I sighed, walked up right to the huge wooden door and opened it “What” I said, it was the messenger, and wearing the clowniest outfit my Father chose for him. Green, purple and red with bells on his hat, maybe Father wanted him to dress like a joker. Hideous was my first thought. “I have a message for you Princess” he cleared his throat, and then started speaking loudly “Your Father wishes to see you downstairs in the 2nd dining room at eleven o’clock” . I looked at the messenger, did a strange face, “go” I murmured, but he didn’t hear me. I tried again, but he was still looking at the message my Father gave him… “Excuse me” I started, the messenger finally looked up. “You may go now” I finished “Oh yes, goodbye” I slammed the door behind him, and lied down on my Bed. I grabbed the nearest pillow and hit myself. I was trying to make my brain completely wake up, but it didn’t seem to work. I looked at the wooden clock, the newest invention here at St-Evernest; I wasn’t sure if it was eleven o’clock or ten, but since I wanted to complain to the people who were supposed to bring me my breakfast I went downstairs anyway. My stomach growled, very loudly, I could even hear a small echo. I walked past, the 1st living room, other bedrooms, the messenger room, and even more rooms, even the art room, or whatever we call that. Finally I got to the kitchen; I opened my mouth, about to start complaining, and then looked around. There wasn’t anyone it was empty… I swallowed my saliva, rubbed my eyes to be sure I wasn’t dreaming, but no. I went into the second living room. I sat down on the white couch and looked at all the vases around me. I guess I could take a small nap. I closed my eyes, tried to ignore all the bird sounds for outside, and the sun that was shining right towards me. “Princess.” said a voice, wait this voice was familiar, I heard it somewhere. I opened my eyes and, oh no it was him again. “Yes.” I started standing up even throw I still wanted to fall asleep. “Your father is coming he is on his way”. Heard footsteps, which meant he was all ready here. Father entered the room, with a strange look on his face, I think he was forcing his smile to actually smile, this probably meant he had bad news, but I would make an excellent lawyer

What is the best way to clean a house.

By on August 15th, 2011

I know it sounds like en elementary question, but now that I have about a week off from work I wanted to take the time to do seasonal cleaning. Where is the best place to start. What products should I use. What tools.

The least amount of chemicals the better.
I am also looking to wipe down the ceiling and wash the walls.
My apartment consists of 1 bathroom, 1 kitchen, 1 office, 1 bedroom, and 1 walk-in closet.

My other concern is the small space and so many things. I’ve been preparing by sorting through clothing and items that I will donate and other things to throw away.

It’s a nightmare, but I know it will be well worth it once I have tools, strategy, and a method.
I want to get it done so I don’t feel so crappy about the space anymore.

Any advice or positive feedback will help.

Thanks,

Overwhelmed Worker
