I’m engaged to marry in a year, and I’m curious about how much money do newly-weds spend to furnish a house.

By on April 2nd, 2008

Our house is, Downstairs: kitchen, breakfast room, dining room, living room, family room, foyer, half bath
Upstairs: master bed and bath upstairs with one other bedroom for an office for filing, computer, bills, etc.

Need EVERYTHING (curtains, chandeliers, wall art, furniture, lamps)

except already have one sofa set in the family room with lamps, and have a kitchen table and chairs, and a computer with printer and kitchen gear.

Is is relatively easy and/or inexpensive to move a load center to another wall in an apartment.

We are thinking about redesigning our kitchen and would like to move our load panel from a wall in the middle of our kitchen to one around 4 feet away. This would allow us to take down the wall where the load panel is currently located and will open up many design options. I need to know if this is a complex and expensive task, and if anyone has a sense of how much this might cost.

I’m a design student, with an assignment to redesign prouduct, object, or interior fixture. I’m looking for any feedback.pet peves about different kinds of flatware, dimmer switches, a kitchen utinsel that doesn’t fit right in your hands. Anything that irks you will help me.

Help. I need the width of a round room that totals 675 Sq. FT.

By on March 10th, 2008

It’s for a design problem that I want to give my students. It’s a kitchen that they need to redesign.
My students are studying interior design. I have a floor plan for the existing kitchen, and was given the total square footage. I just want them to practice redesigning this space, for a theoretical remoder. Therefore I needed the overall Length x width. Your formulas are great. I just don’t remember all that much about Pi and stuff. Thanks for everyone here that tried to make it user friendly for me. You guys rock.
That’s “remodel” up there(no edit option.)

How to keep the cats off of the stove.

By on March 7th, 2008

Ok so we’ve gotten past the phase where they smell food from the oven and try to jump on it. They seem to understand that heat is bad. And we’ve gotten past the whole “hey he oven is open [despite the heat] let me jump in and see what smells so good” phase with our younger cat.

Now I’m trying to find a way to keep them from wandering over there in general. You know cats like to be up high, and right now we don’t have a lot of stuff for them to climb [figured why bother with furniture when we’re just going to move again soon]. The stove is the 3rd highest place in the kitchen, right at food height :)

What are some ways that you keep your kitties off of the stove.

No water bottles. We don’t want them afraid of the water. In fact the one cat loves the water, and the other is only afraid of a bath.
They know better than to be there. All I have to do is say no and they’re in the next room.
Tim is obviously not a cat lover and only here for the points. Go elsewhere, please.
My cats like hot sauce :-\

That bitter apple stuff didn’t work when we were going through the “lets chew on wires phase”
They don’t seem opposed to foil, but I’ve never seen them walk on it. I suppose I could try that. It’d be safe to have sitting on the stove too.

I know they don’t like bubble wrap, but knowing me I’d probably accidentally melt it or something.

is this a joke.Three sisters, ages 92, 94, and 96.

By on March 3rd, 2008

live in a house together. One night the 96 year old draws a bath. She puts one foot in and pauses. She yells down the stairs, “Was I getting in or out of the bath.”

The 94 year old yells back, “I don’t know. I’ll come up and see.”

She starts up the stairs and pauses. Then, she yells, “Was I going up the stairs or down.”

The 92 year old is sitting at the kitchen table having tea, listening to her sisters. She shakes her head and says, “I sure hope I never get that forgetful.” She knocks on wood for good measure.

She then yells, “I’ll come up and help both of you as soon as I see who’s at the door.”

Who saved Dillons on Kitchen Nightmares: Gordon Ramsey, Martin Hyde or Vikas Khanna.

By on February 29th, 2008

In this episode, Chef Gordon Ramsey attempts to correct all the problem in an Indian/America cuisine restaurant called Dillon. From the start, things just seem to go wrong. As Ramsey sits down to try out the food, he is confused by the multiple menus, one serving American food and one serving Indian food. He orders a few vegetarian appetizers and soon discovers that they are no vegetarian. Then what he thinks is beef that he ordered, turns out to be lamb. The kitchen claims that they were all flustered by his pressence. Next he goes in to tour the kitchen, only to find it in total disarray. The Indian chef speaks no English. The store has three managers, all which seem to be no help, especially Martin, the general manager. He can always be found on his phone or sleeping on a bench with a female employee combing her fingers through his hair. That night’s dinner service is total chaos with people having to wait a long time for their food. The next day, Ramsay tours more of the restaurant and finds the downstairs room that is full of cockroaches, rotten food, rats, and flies. He is horrified by what he has seem and takes it out on Martin because he should know about all the rotten food and take care of it. After seeing this, he immediately closes down the kitchen and potential saving the lives of the dinner that are in the restaurant. He is also extremely upset that he was served that food yesterday, especially the bag of lettuce that had flies in it that he ate for lunch. Ramsay takes the staff to his restaurant to show them what a kitchen should look like. Ramsay then brings in a team of professionals to complete steam clean the whole restaurant and then he completely redesigns the dining room. The staff returns the next day to a new menu created with the help of the top Indian Cuisine chef in New York, and a whole new look the the dining room. Problems soon arise during the dinner service because they aren’t used to being busy. Food takes a long time to be prepared and then goes out cold. Ramsay is confused as to what all of the managers are there for, because no one is helping. Finally the floor manager steps in, mainly because of Ramsay telling him that it is his time to shine, and saves the rest of the dinner shift. The staff is elated at how much money they made finally. At the end of the week, Gordon sits the owner of the restaurant down and tells him that he needs to get rid of Martin, the general manager, because he is just taking up space and not helping at all. Martin over hears this and loses his cool. Ramsay is finally glad to see that he cares about something. Martin ends up quitting and the owner ends up hiring the Indian chef that was helping out for the week.
