I am redecorating my kitchen.does anyone know where to get ideas.
By on April 4th, 2008
My home is almost ten years old.started with the basics in decorating my kitchen. Now I have the opportunity to revamp it.colors I have chosen are in the teal family. My friend suggested browns, reds, earthy tones. I have looked at hobby lobby, michaels, Ross, etc. but can not find anything interesting. Does anyone know where I can find such items at discount or do it yourself stores.
Any themes that I should go with.

Help with planning a Birthday Dinner.
By on March 8th, 2008
I am cooking a Family Birthday Dinner for 10 yr old daughter.
My main dish is a Mediterranean Fish Stew by Michael Smith that is to die for. My problem is my father and brother are both very large men and thus eat a lot. I am affraid this dish will be just a tease for their large appettites, however this is my daughters favorite dish that I make. I need suggestions on what else I can prepare to accompany the Stew besides French bread for dipping. Any ideas from the experts .
Thanks, Kitchen Hack in Washington State
PS. THe fish in the stew will be fresh Chinook Salmon and Pacific Halibut

Resurfacing Kitchen Cabinets Makes Old Cabinets Like New

Resurfacing Kitchen Cabinets Makes Old Cabinets Like New
Resurfacing Kitchen Cabinets is a very simple and straight forward project as long as you have the basic tools necessary and a can do attitude. If you will be working with wood that has been finished and has many layers, you will have to strip the remaining finish using a stripping solvent mixture.
If the cabinets’ finishes have mostly worn away, then you may be able to get away with sanding down the remaining finish. If you want a perfect resurfacing job, then you must remove all of the raised portions of residual wood finish.
Using a chemical solvent to remove old wood finish is not difficult, but it can be quite time consuming and takes a fair amount of elbow grease. Apply the stripping solvent with a paint brush and allow the mixture to sit and soak into the wood for as long as the instructions say, or longer.
You’ll notice that the wood stripping solution begins to thicken and becomes bumpy. This is the solvent at work, drawing finish out of the wood itself. When it is time to remove the solvent and the old finish, you will need a combination of stiff and flexible materials with which you can scrape off the goop.
Start with a flat bladed instrument and scrape all of the flat surfaces. For the finer lines and embellishments, you will need to use something more flexible like a scrubbing pad or rough cloth of some kind. Simply remove all of the stuff coating the cabinets.
If there is still left over finish, you may have to repeat the stripping process all over again or wait until the wood is dry and use sandpaper to remove the excess, if there are only small patches of finish left on the wood’s surfaces.
You may find it useful to use a light soap and water solution to remove any excess mixture of stripping solution and old dissolved finish material. The wood must be clean and completely dry before you move on to the rest of your resurfacing kitchen cabinets project.
Once the kitchen cabinets have dried completely, you may proceed with your resurfacing plans. Whether you’re going to apply a granite countertop, some stain or paint, the preparation procedures are the same. Clean, dry surfaces make stains sink in and paint and adhesive stick for years.
I’ve found many of the home improvement websites like http://homedepot.com to be very useful in selecting all of the necessary components for projects, like hardware, adhesives and such. There are man handy guides that you can use to make sure you’re not missing anything and even which products are best for certain kinds of home improvement projects.
Also, the employees of these kinds of stores tend to be very knowledgeable about many home improvement products and procedures. If you have any questions, be sure to ask for assistance if you’re at the retail location, as it is more than likely that the people there will be able to offer all kinds of helpful suggestions.

The Various Kitchen Cabinet Sizes I get a
By admin on December 29th, 2007
The Various Kitchen Cabinet Sizes
I get a lot of calls about the kitchen cabinet sizes we offer through our warehouse. We keep a large inventory of base and wall cabinets. The kitchen cabinet sizes we offer range from nine inches up to forty eight inches. There are fourteen different stock kitchen cabinet sizes we carry.
We sell our cabinets to retailers in many different kitchen cabinet sizes so that they do not need to have a warehouse. I filled an order from Diamond Cabinets in Hillsboro, Oregon for two dozen thirty inch kitchen cabinets. They have a local builder there that plans to use them all.
Another one of the more popular kitchen cabinet sizes is forty two inches. There is a place in Goshen, Indiana that ordered two different kitchen cabinet sizes last month. He ordered four dozen forty two inch cabinets and two dozen eighteen inch cabinets.
My customer in Conway, Arkansas orders three times a year. The kitchen cabinet sizes he was interested in for his last order were only for the upper kitchen cabinet sizes that we use over sinks and stoves. I sent him two dozen twelve inch cabinets, two dozen eighteen inch cabinets and one dozen twenty four inch cabinets.
I had a really nice conversation with a lady in Northwood, Iowa. She called about our kitchen cabinet sizes. She wanted to find a supplier for thirty nine inch cabinets. Her excitement at learning we carried this as one of our stock kitchen cabinet sizes was hardly masked at all.
Middlefield, Ohio has been seeing a boon in new house construction. There are several kitchen cabinet sizes that seem to be going in everywhere. I have been sending many orders to Middlefield, Ohio and they all seem to be one of only three different kitchen cabinet sizes.
I have sent so many orders to Sioux Falls, South Dakota over the last few years that it seems like I know the people at Stamark. They are always very friendly on the phone. I send them six different kitchen cabinet sizes pretty consistently. I plan to visit their store while I am on vacation.
I had a first time customer in Dallas, Texas order a lot of cabinets in a lot of different kitchen cabinet sizes. I was surprised when I took the order from this new customer that they wanted to order as many kitchen cabinets in one order as I had sold in the first quarter of the year. This Dallas customer took delivery of about half of our warehouse of different kitchen cabinet sizes.
I wonder sometimes if the customer in Kreamer, Pennsylvania knows the customer in Red Lion, Pennsylvania. They always call me three days apart. I have had many orders for many different kitchen cabinet sizes from them over the years. I noticed a pattern to their orders and then started actually waiting for the calls to happen as I had predicted.
I have gotten several inquiries about kitchen cabinet sizes from someone in Dublin, Ohio. They have not placed an order, yet. I just keep getting calls about the different kitchen cabinet sizes. I think that the man in Ohio has called me at least ten times.

Black Kitchen Cabinets: Simply Exotic and Elegant Nothing

Black Kitchen Cabinets: Simply Exotic and Elegant
Nothing says more about our style than the appliances we choose for our home. The kitchen is perhaps the biggest holder of appliances in our home. Of course, many people do not consider a kitchen cabinet an appliance, but I think that most kitchen cabinets are indeed an appliance that can make or break that perfect kitchen dיcor. When I chose my kitchen cabinets, I chose to match the kitchen cabinets with my electronic appliances for a complete dיcor overload. Without my black kitchen cabinets, my kitchen would not look the same.
Okay, maybe you think black kitchen cabinets are a bit extreme. Well, in most cases I would agree. Black is such a dark color and usually society has placed such negative emotions and feelings on anything black that a black kitchen seems out of the question. I tell you that I love my black kitchen cabinets. Nothing is as mellow and comforting. No, I am not a reject of the Adams Family, but I do like things to be a bit on the dark side. These cabinets are perfect for my style and me.
Let’s start at number one. Kitchen cabinets show our style and our taste. We all understand that what we choose for kitchen cabinets is extremely important now and in the future. Well, take the color black now. What do we think of when we hear the word black. Usually, it is a negative word. However, I would like to add that black is a basic color that has no rival in the world of colors. Black is a cool color alone and of itself. Not a lot of colors can say that. In addition, everything goes good with black.
What do I get from my black kitchen cabinets? Well, I get beauty. I have black cabinets that have a brighter stenciled border. These are simply beautiful. I like these cabinets because they do not tend to look as dirty as quickly as the brighter colors. My black kitchen cabinets always look clean! In addition, they match my black appliances. I was torn between the metal looking appliances and the black. I saw black as being a more challenging color so my choice was one that would interest me.
Of course, black is not for everyone, but black is becoming a more common choice for home dיcor enthusiasts. Nothing is quite as personal a choice nor is anything as positive a choice. You can never go wrong with black kitchen cabinets. These are as basic as the white of yesteryear. Of course, white still has black beaten because of the negative condemnation that is associated with the word black.
When you want to shop for black kitchen cabinets, you may have a lot of luck if they have gained popularity in your local neighborhood. However, I found that it is often easier to purchase the cabinets as a white cabinet or unfinished and then paint them black yourself. This may save you time and money. Always remember, a smart shopper is a happy shopper.

Evolution of Kitchen Ventilation System Tracer Gas Studies
By admin on November 18th, 2007
Evolution of Kitchen Ventilation System
Tracer Gas Studies
Halton pioneered the research on kitchen exhaust
system efficiency in the late 1980 s, commissioning a
study by the University of Helsinki. At the time there
were no efficiency test standards in place. The goal
was to establish a test protocol that was repeatable
and usable over a wide range of air flows and hood
designs.
Nitrous Oxide (tracer gas), a neutrally buoyant gas,
was used. A known quantity of gas was released from
the heated cooking surface and compared to the
concentration measured in the exhaust duct. The
difference in concentration was the efficiency at a
given air flow. This provided valuable information about
the potential for a variety of capture and containment
strategies. The Capture Jet system was tested using
the Tracer Gas technique and the results showed a
significant improvement in capture and containment of
the convective plume at lower exhaust air flows
compared to conventional exhaust only hoods.

The kitchen design process is a complicated one with many different aspects to consider. The
primary objective of this research project is to find out what the aesthetic considerations are
for kitchen users before and during design process. A secondary objective developed further
into the project is to delve into and classify the considerations of new construction to the
kitchen design process.
Various considerations that fall into the scope of this research are the following:
Functional considerations

Installing base cabinets Begin in the same corner
By admin on November 5th, 2007
Installing base cabinets
Begin in the same corner as you did when fitting your wall cabinets. Make
sure the cabinet matches your plan - and is correctly positioned according to
the wall cabinet.
Once again, you need to make sure that the first cabinet is level , even if
your floor isn’t - follow the marking lines.
Leave the doors and shelves until last, as it is easier to adjust an empty unit!
Before affixing the cabinet to the wall, rotate the legs to adjust the height,
making sure the units are level. Once the height matches the marking line or
other units and is level then use the appropriate fittings to secure cabinet to
the wall.
