Why do so many Europeans look down on the rest of this planet.

By on February 18th, 2010

I’m sure everyone has heard of the famous “European snobbery” that is typical of a lot of Europeans. What drives this attitude. My sister worked for a French chef who said that the Peruvians working in the kitchen were “not too bright, but they work cheap so we keep them.” I’ve worked with Europeans for years now and it IS interesting how they see the rest of this planet. An Irish girl I worked with had quite a high pedestal. Why. What makes these people think they are so great.

Please keep in mind I’m asking just about some Europeans and I’d like answers that pertain to that.
To Dreamer: Please stop dreaming and look at Europe for what it is and was, a hotbed of intolerance for anything that wasn’t European. Ask a native how they feel about Europeans “discovering” them.

Obviously they have reason to. They live of the past. You know when they conquered everywhere and enslaved everyone. With these facts in mind they think that they are the descendants of true masters. Although things like racial prejudice is improving tremendously as people get more educated about it many europeans still believe that they are better. We all know this is not true because there are other races that beat them in many things but they inherited that “superior position” from centuries ago so it will continue.

don’t you think that they look at people in America as being the same exact way.

people in America look down on everyone. they just have a more rigid and more militant way of going about it.

and even if europeans are like that. look at their culture and society. they value art and history so much more than Americans do. their society is more accepting of culture than Americans are. I wouldn’t blame them for being a little “Snobbish” they have a beautiful spirit about them.

Since imperialism, Europeans are thought of thinking they are more intelligent than other civilizations because of racism created by them to give them the right of owning people in the 19th century with colonies. Maybe some of them still are racist but the world changed since then. China, Japan, even Nigeria have become very successful in comparison to European nations.

well. they think they are more “civilized” than the rest of the world but they are actually blind from their own Eurocentric view of the world. They are often being hypocritical because they criticize other nations being uncivilized while they actually doing the same thing themselves, so they don’t really do what they preach.

Its still fairly recent in the grand scheme of things that Europe was more powerful than America or any other place in the world. they had been succesfull longer, and been around longer in general. now their snobbery is weird without the power to back it up, but they can’t exactly lose it over night. its certainly happening, they aren’t nearly as condescending towards americans/ others in general as they are documented as having been in past centuries. however, it will take a while for them to fully come down to earth and recognize that they deserve respect like all other nations, but no longer can get away with acting superior, as in the 21st century it is nothing but a delusion.
