low-budget kitchen remodel.

By on February 7th, 2010

We are adding on to our house. I want to make new kitchen cabinets. What’s the easiest way to do this. I like the old country look, so they dont have to be fancy. But i do want them done correctly. Any ideas.

cabinets are expensive because they are so labor intensive.i remodeled my kitchen a few years ago.i couldn’t afford custom made cabinets, so I opted for Home Depot. I bought a medium grade and have had them in for several years. I don’t know what you call low budget, but even if you make them you can’t compete for already made unless you time is worth less than 4 an hour.

Sorry to say, the old country look is expensive. I have customers come into my kitchen showroom thinking that if they are willing to accept some “scratches”, the cabinets will be cheaper. All of these finish treatments are additional labor and thus more money. As are “painted” cabinets, (which are really not painted, but that’s another story) The best bang for your buck would be a cabinet like Omega Dynasty cabinets or Columbia cabinets.
