Why do a lot of kitchen these days have no cabinet doors on the top.

I see that a lot of people use this to show off their dishes and other things in their cabinets. Do you think its messy or unique or just plain stupid. LOL

I think it is unique and nice if someone is neat enough to be able to pull this off. I would never want others to see how bad my dishes look. On the practical side of things–I would thing bugs and mosquitoes would land on you clean dishes that are left out.

Open cabinetry has been used for a zillion centuries before now and has begin working perfectly well for people. But to me it is a radical turn backward in History’s improvements for kitchens.
Without doors on cabinets, certainly there will have to be much more dusting of the dishes. I don’t like dusting. Since I already have enough things to dust, I am opting not to get cabinets without doors any time soon.
Think long and hard unless you really like dusting before you choose doorless cabinets.

1. Apparent opening of space [visually] - by removing the cabinet doors, you are creating depth into the back of the cabinet. The organization of your contents within the cabinet is truly the only way to make this an effective, visually appealing setup.
2. Overall preference in design style - some people just really like having their stuff shown off. By removing the doors and revealing what is within, this satisfies their preferences.
My two [2] cents:
It can be messy if you don’t organize well, and not if you do. And I believe that if you are to do it, you must organize, otherwise it will not present an appealing visual to your onlookers. If that is the case, then it is just plain stupid [to answer your question finally].
Additionally, it can be “unique” as you put, if everyone and your neighbor isn’t doing it. But in the sense of truly unique. It’s been used many, many times before and thus, is not a unique idea.
