To what degree do you think this person should be responsible.

By on December 11th, 2009

I moved out of state for 4 years. We stored some things in my mother-in-laws garage. She was fine with it. No problem. We arranged it neatly and took stock of all that was there. After about 2 years she called and asked if she could let a relative have our kitchen stuff to set up their first apt. Sure. That was fine. Help out those who help you.
When we returned home and began to get back our stuff, we noticed alot missing. Okay, fine. But. I had nearly $2,000.00 in auto and carpentry tools that were gone. Some of I had most of my life. When I asked what happened to my tools, she just shrugged her shoulders and pretended to have no idea. I’m pretty sure she had nothing to do with it, but I’m also all but certain she knows who did.
Shouldn’t she feel at least I have the right to know which one of my dear in laws took my tools.
I’ll bet if $2,000.00 of her stuff came up missing from her home, there would be a police report and a file on her home owners insurance.
I know this is a long question but my wife and I argue about this everyday. She don’t want to say anything to mom because she probably doesn’t want to know who it is that took my tools. I just want my stuff back or at least the chance to face the thief.
Oh, man, if I could just find out who took them. that would go a long way towards chilling out this issue.
Mostly aggravating was just the total lack of concern she expressed. Shrug the shoulders, turn up the hands, and tilt the head to the side as if to say.”Not my fault, not my stuff, not my problem.”
This stuff was “stolen” out of her garage. So why no police report. Why no outrage. Not even a look of surprise.
And yes. I am gonna have to get over this, but damn, it really pisses me off.

Microwave Cooking is much Faster Than Other Methods of Cooking

The microwave oven is the fastest way of cooking food, or just reheating leftovers, out of all kitchen appliances. The microwave was first discovered when Dr. Percy Spencer noticed while doing a research project involving radar that the chocolate in his pocket had melted because he was testing a new vacuum tube called a magnetron. So he decided to start experimenting and found that popcorn kernels popped when they got too close, and an egg would explode from the extreme heat. He experimented further, assuming that if it could cook those foods that quickly, it should be able to do that with other foods too.
The first microwave was developed in 1947 by the Raytheon Company. It was about the same size of a refrigerator, about 5 and a half feet tall, and over 750 lbs. It cost about $5000, and most people didn’t want to buy it because of its size. In 1955 the Tappan Company made the first microwave designed for home use. It was 24 inches wide.
The microwave’s first use was in hospital kitchens and military canteens. But some people used the microwave for dangerous uses, such as drying cork, ceramics, paper, leather, tobacco textiles, pencils, flowers, wet books, and match heads. Which obviously, was very dangerous and not very smart at all.
The microwave saves time, especially in defrosting chicken because chicken needs to be properly defrosted for health reasons. The microwave definitely saves time in reheating. In a conventional oven it would take almost an hour to reheat a baked potato, but in a microwave, it would take about 5 minutes. Saves you a lot of time to get other things done that you need to do.
The reason that a microwave works a lot faster than a conventional oven is the way that it cooks the food. In a conventional oven it penetrates the food with heat from the outside, and in a microwave oven, the food generates the heat within itself.
As a general rule, an oven powered by electricity will cook food a lot faster than a gas-powered oven. Although 60% of our (Americans) conventional ovens are powered by electricity, they are still less efficient than the stand microwave because it takes a lot longer to cook the food.
A Swedish study found that cooking a single portion of potatoes in an oven took 9.5 times as much energy and time as it did in a microwave, but as the portion numbers being cooked increased, the efficiency of the microwave decreased.
The microwave is also much more economically friendly. It uses less power than a convention oven, and it is much faster too. The convention oven costs you a lot of energy just by how slowly it cooks the food compared to the microwave. The conventional oven also has a higher wattage than a microwave. The conventional oven has a wattage of about 3,000 watts, and a microwave has a wattage of about 600-1,650 watts, depending on the microwave.
As you can see, not only does the microwave cook food faster and saves you time, but it is also much more economically beneficial than the conventional oven. The microwave oven is a much better choice if you’re in a hurry, or if you just care about the environment.

If I have a bottle of grape juice from 2004 that is sealed in a glass bottle, can I still drink it.

By on December 7th, 2009

This bottle of grape juice has never been opened. It has been stored in a kitchen pantry for most of it’s time. All of the stickers, caps, and foil wrappings are still attached. Do you think it is safe to drink.
If it is safe to drink, do you think it’ll be of drinkable quality.

Should I buy a MOBILE HOME.

By on December 6th, 2009

Let me start off by posting the link.
http://www.realtor.ca/propertyDetails.aspx.propertyId=8722430
The home is listed at $15,000 and I would like to put in an offer.
What are the PROS and CONS of buying a mobile home. I am a first time buyer, 18 years old and wanting to jump into the market while its cheap, then sell the property(or rent) at a later time.

Can you add onto a mobile home. I notice theres quite a large spot on the right hand side, which I could extend the kitchen+living room.
Also, this may be a stupid question but; Can you add another floor into a mobile home.
Even if remodels were aproved by park managment, Would it be worth buying for resale. Any answers or links would be greatful.

I will take ANY feedback, and maybe some ideas on remodeling that home.

P.S: Ive heard of “modular room add-ons” for mobile homes, are they worth looking into. or should i gut the whole house and remodel it. For $15,000 it gives me ALOT of room to work with.

Please help me decide who should do which chores in the house.(details inside) 10 points for best answer.

Our household consists of:

Mother: 44, stays at home
Father: 49, works 6 days a week

Kids:
20, in college
19, works
And six school age children - 6, 8, 9, 11, 12 and 14 years of age.

Chores are: dishes/kitchen, laundry, vacuuming, bathrooms, taking out trash, dusting furniture, feeding cats, cooking meals.

My problem is figuring out who should do what and how often.

Any ideas.

Thanks. :)

Can I cut off the wires to my plug in under cabinet lights and hard wire.

By on December 3rd, 2009

I remodeled my kitchen and ran wires for under counter lights. I had a gift card for Home Depot so I had to buy the lights there but all I could find was plug in/linkable lights. Some will link but 4 (1 in each cluster of cabinets) needs to be hardwired. Can I cut off the plug and hard wire them in. They are line voltage. None are low voltage.

Why American Men treated with no respect i dont understand.

By on December 2nd, 2009

I come from Eastern Europe and met great American friends. So i invite 5 of them over for dinner and vodka. They bring their wife and i dont care. Why dont wifes leave us alone. They would stare their husbands down from kitchen when we toast and take shots. What is this. why dont these bossy women let Man be a man in America. And the 5 friends so weak and fear the womens. They eyed the husbands so they dont drink smoke too much.so weirdd here. I never seen this treatment in Russia or any other european country. The women do their thing while man enjoys with friends feasting smokeing and drinking.unbelivable.
What is guy night out. Others are not American. We dont do “bars” in our caps and cheap china clothing.we dress chique and do things at home. Our conversations are politics history and business not “sports””boobies” etc.Women in this country have made american men Pansy.
