What are windows called that are for indoors.
By on November 20th, 2009
I’m vaulting the ceiling in my kitchen and on the center wall (toward the top) I’m going to frame in some “cubbies” or imagine like finished box up high across the top of the wall. I want to build the illusion that these are antique windows (I’m going to back light them with can lights (hidden from view) and 10,000k sunlight bulbs. My question IS. I need to finish them with some swinging pain glass window type things. Kind of like cabinet doors, except they will fit INTO the frames, instead of like a little door that covers the frame (like most conventional cabinets). What are those windows called. I’ve seen them on very old homes before, they are usually like small panes of glass fitted into the “frame” of the window, they swing toward each other french door style, and sometimes you see them with a lever latch in the center. WTH are these type of windows or cabinet doors called. I don’t even know what to ask for, or search for, everything I find is like an exterior window, or a glass fronted cabinet door. thanks.
Having the living room, dining room, and kitchen painted.
By on November 19th, 2009
Our house had wallpaper in the kitchen and dining room, so we’re having wallpaper taken down, walls textured, and those rooms painted. Today is the second day and I’m so stressed about the state of the house. it’s almost unlivable.
I’d known they were going to wrap all the cabinets in plastic on the 1st day of a 4 day job I would have taken some dishes out. Even the kitchen sink is wrapped and covered in plastic.
Anybody had major work done while they were living in their home. Any ideas to make our life easier over the next three days.
I don’t think I appreciated my kitchen enough, but I will from now on.
I never even gave a second thought to just being able to go grab something when I wanted it. spoiled, spoiled, spoiled.
Why is the right so terrified of Michelle Obama.
By on November 18th, 2009
What is it about smart, successful women that so intimidates them. A high school salutatorian who graduated cum laude from Princeton and earned her doctorate from Harvard, and has held a variety of prestigious positions including an associate director at a law firm and a VP in a hospital administration, making serious contributions everywhere she goes. Her exceptional sense of style has even made her a symbol of pop culture. She has visited soup kitchens and sent representatives to schools and even advocated organic food growth.
So why is the Right, in even more prominence within this forum, constantly attempting to compare her to a gorilla. It doesn’t even make sense, and what’s worse, she’s not even a politician of any sort.what exactly do they have to be afraid of. What is it about her that urges them to the point of desperation of even making something up if they have to. Or does the idea of a prominent, successful, fashionable black woman repulse them.
As a side note, you gotta love the affirmative action comments. In the right’s mind a black person couldn’t possibly become successful without loads of affirmative action every step of the way. Oh.unless they’re Republican of course.
Oh, I see now.it’s only successful Democratic women that terrify them. Of course they don’t mock Condoleeza Rice, and of course it’s not okay to deride Palin for quitting her job and hunting moose from helicopters but deride Michelle for a slightly suggestive college thesis and their own opinion of her fashion sense.they’re Republicans.
And when it comes to Democrats, materializing comments like ” rude, arrogant, ill mannered heifer” out of thin air, is all part of the game. Republicans aren’t racist.if the person’s a Republican. Then they’re quite willing to suppress it.
Thanks for clarifying.

boyfriend living with rats. how can i make him move. 22 yrs old.
By on November 17th, 2009
ok.so my boyfriend really doesn’t embrace change at all. he’s just moved into an apartment with a guy he graduated high school with.and it hasn’t gone as planned. coming from a pretty ideal college living situation.this has affected him. the place he’s living is a dump.and in a really bad part of town. his “plan” has been to move out in december after finals.however he hasn’t done much work to look for a place.and he’d be moving in about a month. the dilemma here is most probably bc he wants to find another roomate.but it’s looking like he’ll have to get a place on his own. i think this is for the better bc he’s got a year left in college.and def. needs to take this gradual step to growing up. all of his best friends live in the same complex but each have their own one bedroom.that’s where he wants to be.so he says he’ll move in december. however, last night.i realized how dangerous his living situation really might be. not only is he living on a street with the highest crime rate in our city.but the inside of his apartment.is infested with RATS. i’m not kidding.the biggest rats you’ve ever seen. he told me a couple weeks ago they’re dishwasher was eaten through by rats and water leaked everywhere. this was already after his roomate killed another rat a month before. anyway.last night i went to get some water from the kitchen.and movement by the dishwasher caught my eye. it blended in really well with the towels placed under the appliance due to leaking.but it was the biggest rat i’ve ever seen.most definitely about 4 lbs in size.with a long tail. it was crouched drinking water from under the towels. after letting my bf & his roomate know.they tried to kill it and missed.while it crawled into the dishwasher. after this they checked all the traps and found 2 dead mice. they were changing out the towels under the washer when i noticed blood was soaked through them.rat blood.mixed with poison. one had eaten a lot of it and apparently bled all over the towel and floor. i was completely disgusted with the thought of the diseases that could be in all that blood. it is so common for rats to carry diseases. anyway his roomate who is a complete slob laughed about it.while my bf looked a little nervous and suggested we go buy some water at the store so we wouldn’t have to drink the water here. his roomate let us know how stupid he thought that idea was.anyway.i tried to get my boyfriend not to think about it so he could sleep that night and it seemed like his mind was at ease a little later. this morning we talked about it.and i let him know that i think it’d be a good decision to move as early as possible. he has nowhere else to stay during the week and can no longer keep food there. he doesn’t feel comfortable drinking the water.but has to bathe in it.which he says he dreads. however.he’s petrified to live on his own.and this discussion ends up in a fight. he’s been going through an extremely hard time right now that i won’t even go into.and i know this living situation is only making it worse. he’s fighting me every step of the way bc he’s scared of change.but i know this could only help him to be happy.and honestly i’m just worried about what might happen to him while he’s sleeping there. what should i do. i’m tired of being asked for advice and getting shot down about everything i say. he’s got some growing up to do and i think it’s time for him to face it.living on his own could definitely help.and he’d still be surrounded by friends.so it’d only be better than where he is. what to do.
Will the SMELL of mouth balls hurt ferrets.
By on November 16th, 2009
I have a mouse in my kitchen somewhere, I know he’s been hiding out in the cabinets. I put mouth balls inside the cabinets to try to get read of him (because I don’t like to use decon, I don’t want him dying in my house). My ferret is only out under supervision and I know he will not get to the mouth balls, but there a slight smell of them in the kitchen area. Will the smell hurt my ferret at all.
What makes Asian foods smell like urine.
By on November 15th, 2009
Okay, I’ve asked this before, but have yet to get an answer: What makes Chinese food smell like urine. The smell is in other Asian foods as well. I smell it, but other people will gobble it up. What is it. I would like to know what ingredient adds this odor, so I can order it without it, because ordering food “without the urine smell” will pretty much result in my food being urinated in.
I should add that I have NO idea about the preparation process of any Asian foods. None. So I have zero starting point to figure this out. I’ve found other people asking this question on various internet forums, but people respond saying that the food has spoilt and that the asker is an idiot. I don’t think that’s the case, because if it was spoilt everyone should have the same reaction. It’s obviously one ingredient that has some kind of note to it’s aroma that registers URINE to certain people but -delicious- to others. It’s super-frustrating because my boyfriend likes this food and I generally can hardly stand to even sit in the restaurants that make it. There’s a Korean restaurant a few blocks from home that I was taken to once. Everyone else was super into their food, but the smell from the kitchen was seriously turning my stomach. And it was registering, overwhelmingly, of urine.
In the age of modern kitchens why is it that a lot of young women don’t like to cook.
By on November 14th, 2009
Can you imagine our great grandmothers happiness to cook in a modern kitchen today .For most (not all ) its part of house decoration. Ask a young woman under 30s what she likes you will never hear her say cooking.
Help with Kitchen remodel and design.
By on November 13th, 2009
I wanted to remodel my ugly and ill designed kitchen. Where are some good places, websites perhaps, that I can get help on a kitchen redesign. I dont what to hire an architect at this point.
I have stairs that come into it and 3 additional doors that enter the kitchen and its small (8.5′x11.75′) so everything seems very out of place.
I understand about cabinets, counter tops, tiles, etc. I just really lack on the architecture and design area.
Thanks.
We are renting a house and mice are destroying our belongings.
By on November 12th, 2009
We moved into this Farmhouse and learned after only 1 months ,that we had a lot of mice also living in there. I talked to the Landlord and he said to just get mouse trapps.
The problem seems out of controll though and mousetrapps or poison isn’t getting rid of them.
They are everywhere,in our childrens rooms, closets, the kitchen drawers, even my underwear drawer.
Is the Landlord responsible for Damage the mice do to our belongings. They are chewing on our wooden furniture too.
