Is there any logic at all to a toddlers tantrums.
By on October 20th, 2009
My son is 16 months old. He is breaking molars and his usual sunny demeanor has soured. I usually feel pretty connected with him and his moods but lately I am confused most of the time.
Earlier today I was writing on a pad some ingredients from an online recipe so that I could check which ones I needed to get. He wanted that piece of paper - I needed it - so I wrote a note on another piece of paper on the pad, ripped it off and gave it to him. He flipped out - full on don’t touch me. tantrum.
After he calmed down I went into the kitchen and made my grocery list. Now I didn’t need the piece of paper anymore so when he came up to me, I gave it to him. Freak out. Slamming arms into the floor, screaming and crying. After he calmed down we went to the grocery store, where he was an absolute delight, charming old ladies and befriending the bagger.
Please, somebody tell me their child also does this. I honestly don’t know what is going through his head at these moments - I’m not trying to torment him, yet somehow, I do.
I also wouldn’t mind recs for your favorite “mind of a toddler” books and articles.
I don’t ignore him and I’d sooner poke my own eyes out than “swat his butt” but thanks for answering.
Laying down laminate wood flooring.
By on October 19th, 2009
Hello, I bought a HUD home that only has a concrete slab in the living room and the lender says that I have two months to add a new floor. I am going with laminated wood since this is a normal middle class housing area and I spent most of my savings closing on this home so I do not want to get extravagant hardwoods or anything. The guy who is helping me is not really reliable, so I would like to get started myself. On DIY Network, they say to lay down a foam pad under the laminate. Can I do this now before I remove the wall’s baseboards.
The reason why I want to jump on this right away is because I do not like having to wear shoes to access my kitchen. I am hoping I can lay down the foam pad for now until we are ready to add the laminate flooring. Please let me know if it is ok with me to lay down the foam pad first before doing anything else. Thanks.
help me remodel my moms kitchen.
By on October 18th, 2009
okay, for Christmas im thinking of fixing up my moms kitchen, she already has a black dishwasher and stove, so i was going to buy a black refrigerator but im scared it will look weird since it will be new and her other black appliances are probably from 10 years ago, so im not sure the blacks will all match.
also i was just going to have the cabinets refinished, not sure what color, maybe painted white with black handles, or a cherry wood color with black handles, i really have no idea what looks best with the black appliances
also she already has nice tile, it looks like this http://www.homedepot.com/Flooring-Tile-S…
i would also like to redo the counter tops, i was thinking of tiling them, black as well, but again im bad at this
so if you could help me decide what to paint the walls, what to color the cabinets and what to do with the countertop that would match the tile i am keeping and black appliances i would appreciate it so much.
ten points for best answer, so please answer all my questions
thanks
Why would someone build a home with a basement ceiling of a little over 6 feet, and who would buy it.
By on October 15th, 2009
OK, our deal fell through on a home we were set to buy due to an appraisal coming back much lower than what we offered and the seller’s unwillingness to lower his price. So, we looked at a BEAUTIFUL home in a prime neighborhood. The home was built in 1922 but is completely updated with beautiful cherry hardwood floors, granite kitchen with backsplash etc, ceramic floors in bathroom and a very beautiful design overall BUT my husband had to duck down when walking through the basement.
Who would build a home like this with a ceiling so low. My husband is 6′1″ish and he could not stand straight and walk without hitting his head on the beams.
WTH.
Ahhh.I always thought a “crawlspace” was literal.like you had to be damn near on your hands and knees lol.
Very RED sectional. What wall color.
By on October 13th, 2009
moved into an apt. and inherited red sectional. heres what it looks like http://www.gowfb.com/images/prod_alts/thumbs/PLATINUM-MICROFIBERRED-N0117-4.JPG
the wall its on was already a deep red color. i HATE the red on dark red. it looks awful. what color should i paint the wall. i was thinking a grey color. i would like it to be a bit modern but not straight black white and red. the rest of my apt is black and white and greys (zebra print) i have black and white pictures on all the walls and 2 wall units that are white, blonde wood and glass with silver handles. any ideas on what color to paint my wall (btw its runs into my kitchen as well. and my kitchen gray granite with black appliances and fairly light cabinets.
thanks for any advice.
Will the post office deliver this straight to my door.

I am trying to buy a toy kitchen for my daughter. We went to the local store and found what we wanted, but the box is so big, we cannot put it in our small Focus. We don’t have a way to take this to the store. We looked for the same kitchen online and found it at walmart.com. I know, they don’t charge shipping and handling if you order and pick up the item at the store, but like I said, we don’t have a vehicle for this. We decided to pay shipping and handling, to receive it in our apartment.
The issue is that I remember, a while ago, I ordered smaller items like books and stuff, and the mail man usually dropped a card in my mailbox telling me to pick up my oversized package at the local PO. Does that mean, that even if I pay shipping and handling, all I’ll get will be a post card telling me that my daughter’s kitchen is at the post office. That would cause the same problem that I’m trying to avoid.
Faucet won’t turn.how bad is it.
By on October 11th, 2009
My kitchen faucet was leaking really bad, so I looked up faucet leaks online and it said you can remove the screw and replace that big bolt or whatever in there to stop it. So I turned the water off under the sink, took off the cap, and took a pliers to the big screw thing and it was stuck I couldn’t move it more than a little bit, so I put the cap back on. It stopped leaking so badly for a couple days, but then it got really bad. So, this morning I unscrew the screw, lift the cap, and try to unscrew the big screw with the pliers, but it won’t move at all this time, so I put the cap/handle/turner/whatever back on, but this time the cap looks higher up then the other one and it won’t turn at all. So, now I’m going to call my landlord to fix it of course, but how pissed is he going to be that I was messing with it. Did I break it really bad, or will he be able to fix it pretty easily with the right tools.
And, I didn’t call my landlord when it was leaking at first because it takes him forever to do anything so I thought I’d try it, that’s why before someone asks. Yes it was stupid to try it myself I know
. Thanks.
Kitchen exhaust work question.
By on October 8th, 2009
I am replacing my kitchen cabinets, my exhaust fans duct work will be exposed for a short distance before going into the attic and then through the roof. I am looking for suggestions on how best to cover the exposed duct and with what material looks best.
Living in a small apartment advice.
By on October 7th, 2009
okay guys, so I live in the same state of my college campus so I decided not to dorm there and save a few thousands dollars but I went from a pretty good size home to a 750 square foot apartment.
can you give me some advice of things to buy that are decently cheap that would help make my place seem bigger.
my kitchen is about the size of a walk in closet with minimal counter space, no pantry and limited cabinets.
where could I put pantry items, pots/pants, dinnerware. (I have a decent collection because I’m into cooking
also for the bedroom and living room, any clever storage advice. (racks, bins, etc)
thank you so much
