Kitchen Remodel - Need Help.

By on September 22nd, 2009

Ok, I am one of those people who needs to see a complete room and doing this kitchen remodel is not fun. I simply cannot put together the pieces from 1″ squares and samples of this and that.

So far, we have the flooring picked out. Congoleum Ultima in Earthen Clay - http://congoleum.chameleonpower.com/product.cfm.sku=UL070. The cabinets are maple with a toffee glaze (medium shade of brown with a brown glaze to accent the ridges on the cabinet doors). http://www.armstrong.com/rescabam/na/cabinets/en/us/product_detail.asp.styleId=41&finishId=25

Here’s the dilemma: We have all white appliances. Originally I picked out Wilson Art Black Star granite laminate countertop (black w/specs of browns) - http://samples.wilsonart.com/p-225-blackstar-granite-4551-1.aspx. But since the appliances are white, is that going to look right. A black countertop with white appliances.

or should we change the countertop color to something lighter - like more of a tan.

HELP. I wish I was more artistic. Thanks.

black and white are very nice colors in clothes and in cars and other areas including kitchen, but its up to your color taste and mood. What you can do is get a 3d guy to do a picture of how your kitchen would look if it were black and white. Or choose a lighter color for your counter top in the kitchen so it can be more blended into the color appliances. I think white appliances look very modern and chic. Black and white is a great idea for your kitchen design. Black and white are also neutrals so you can decorate and match other accessories however you’d like. Good luck.

pickmefirstplz is correct. Match the counter to the cabinets and flooring. Various shades of browns in the counter would be best and if the shades are mostly dark or mostly light would be your preference.

However, black with white would look good if you added more black in the room. Such as black cabinet hinges/knobs-handles, ceiling light, light switch covers, etc. To keep the counter, just add more black in the room to tie it together otherwise match the counter with cabinets and floor.
