A know this is early but Ive got a Christmas dinner question.

By on August 31st, 2009

My brother and I are both intermediate cooks in the kitchen and with a little forethought, time and ingenuinety we can make just about anything. We have made dinner today 2 years already and we’re going on our 3rd year. Each year we’ve out done ourselves, but this year Im stumped. It has been suggested that we do a “Christmas cruise theme”, with each course a different European country, but quite honestly Im struggling to work out even a basic menu to work off for this undertaking. Please some suggestions of different foods from different European countries would be so helpful.

Maybe you could do some appetizers from different countries as a little pre-dinner party or something then finish it off with traditional American foods for the main course.

maybe you can do a little bit of research on the countries that do celebrate x-mas (or there abouts) and make a different side dish from a different country and for something really different make the three main dishes (or are there four)

    turkey

    ham

    duck.

    fish

i know that is a lot but if it works out then maybe you can do this kind of thing every year where you use a different kind of dish from said country — like green beans one year and corn the next year.

good luck i hope that this gave you some ideas after all the best things come to those that do research.

If you have a look on this website you can have a look at how Christmas is celebrated around the world, and each country tells you what the traditional foods are

I’m from London, and our traditional christmas dinner consists of.

    Starter:
    melon balls
    Pate with toast
    prawn cocktail

    Main:
    Turkey
    Stuffing
    Roast potatoes
    cauliflower cheese
    Brussel Sprouts
    Roast parsnips
    little sausages wrapped in bacon
carrots mashed with swede (rutabaga) and a little butter

    Dessert:
    Mince pies
    Xmas pudding
    Brandy Cream
    and vanilla ice cream

We have 1 from the starter list, depending on which one you like. all on the main list, and all from the dessert list. then you feel full up for 2-3 days after. :0)

Have fun. and a great Christmas
Don’t forget the Christmas crackers, that we put on the table, we pull them, and put the silly hat that’s inside on our heads and look daft throughout our dinner.

I think a nice Hungarian Goulash would be great for one of your dinner entrees http://www.budapest-tourist-guide.com/hungarian-goulash.html

Also some Baklava, crepes, and streudel for dessert.
