I wouldn’t see anything wrong with renting it out but no way would I leave my personal belongings. I’d put it in storage or put everything in the shed. I don’t want others using my stuff.

Edit: Aw, I wouldn’t call him an idiot. He sounds like he’s just over trusting. He’s probably a really nice person also, although he should be less trusting. It’s sad that people take advantage of those who do nice things for them. He’s the kind of person I wish our world was made of.

Most furnished rentals are not furnished with personal belongings, rather cheap “rental” type furniture. You should never leave anything personal behind. Renters will not respect your possessions the way you would.

If leaving stuff in the house, it needs to be in locked, secure room, and even then, there may be problems.
Definitely remove anything of value, sentimental or financial, anything personal. Box it up and lock it up. Consider offsite storage, a POD, or put a secure lock(s) on door.
Shed is good for power tools and such, and I’d lock that too. Leave out the rakes and shovels and mower, but lock up everything else.
Furnished Vacation rentals generally have a few locked closets with owners’ stuff.

Yes.

I live in an expensive rental area and it is very common for people who have been transferred out of the area to rent their condo, co-op or brownstone like this to renters. People put their personal items (extra clothing, yearbooks, etc.) in storage along with their personal valuables (jewelry, artwork, etc) and rent the unit as completely furnished.

“Most” people don’t have problems with these tenants because they know how to choose carefully. It’s fairly easy to get a professional person who needs housing for an extended period, as in needs a place to stay but doesn’t need to move to the area, to rent these places rather than stay at a hotel for several months.

This makes no Sense what so ever .
Secure the garage and maintain for yourself if you like ,better yet use public storage for your items.

Also if there was a fire your tenants content insurance will not cover your items.

Too many negatives to list, don’t do it .
