Where do I find non-mainstream bathroom paint colors.

By on May 11th, 2009

I’ve just bought a new flat, and have been trawling DIY shops for paint and paper. I’ve found perfect things for the living room and bedrooms, but just can’t find ANYTHING I like for the bathroom. All the paint colors for bathrooms and kitchens are drab and boring - pale yellows, blues and greens or the ubiquitous ‘Magnolia’.

I want something more exciting - bubblegum pink, hot red, deep purple, something like that. It’s not a new bathroom, so I’d like to make it a bit more ‘mine’ with colors.

So, does anyone know of any UK stockists of bathroom and kitchen paint which isn’t limited to 6 shades. The bathroom’s pretty small and will probably get steamy with the shower running, so I don’t want to use regular paint in case it flakes with the condensation.

Living room design tips.

We just build our first house and now it’s time to buy furniture and decor for the living room. My living room has a bay window and it’s hard to buy furniture for it. Please give me some idea of what kind of furniture to buy and how to arrange them (budget is $4000). Here’s some pics i took a while ago. Any tips is welcome. Thank you so much guys.

I wonder if I could make this into a novel or publish it with other short stories I’ve written. That is if I could get published. What do you think.
Opinions are appreciated.

There was an overgrowth of mint in her backyard. Meredith went on to search for black widows she could kill with her yellow fly swatter. None were to be found, none as conspicuous as they were when at night. Therefore, Meredith sat next to me, complacent, as if she thought they were scared of her. Her dress flowed slowly on the cemented ground as she fell happily.
“What are you doing.” she asked curiously, while picking a minted leave and began sniffing it.
“Nothing,” I replied. I was looking at the grass and feeling the hot sun on my skin. I turned to look at her, she had her eyes closed, the leaf still by her petite nose.
“Have you smelled this.” she asked, handing it to me. I did, but I said no and put it to my nose taking in the refreshing scent.
Meredith liked me to call her Edith. I had no idea why but I obliged when she asked me to. Her hair was a light brown color that of a walnut sorrel. She had eyes that were black, a deep intense color. Meredith had a slender figure with slightly curvaceous features. She was beautiful, oblivious of that fact. Being quiet, reticent was something she wanted in a friend. I caught her staring at me.
“What are you thinking about.” she said, inquisitively innocent.
“Oh, the smell of this.” I lifted the mint leave high enough for her to see. Staying in the sun gave Meredith a feeling of lethargy and she now wanted to go inside her house to cool off.
“Do you want a glass of water.” she asked with a tired voice.
“Yes.” I said after the sun had made my mouth dry and parched. She brought back two tall clear glasses of water with a couple of ice cubes in each. We both drank and indolently sat on the green, soft sofa in her living room. All the things in her home were mismatched and unnecessary. A black wheel on the wall was an unusual decorum for the entryway of the home. It served no purpose and derived in me contempt for it, for everything in this house. Maybe it was because Meredith’s mother died long ago of an evil disease, which left her bedridden and finally cold and putrid lying on her canopy bed.
The day was slow to pass. There was no noise, not even a buzz from a fly. We did nothing and I eventually left when I, staring at the ceiling for a copious amount of time, looked at her and saw her asleep.
I came to the doorstep of her house as I had always done on Tuesdays. The brown doormat was underneath my Keds and I rang the doorbell. Seconds later a man appeared, scanned every part of my body then let me in by gesticulating with his left hand. Tim Rand was Meredith’s father. Tim is a tall man, average looking, but very intelligent, or so Meredith tells me. He walks toward the kitchen, slovenly wipes his hand on his open robe and pours coffee into his white and blue striped mug. I sit in a plastic covered chair in the dining room because there is a myriad of things strewn over at the couch. While reaching in a silver cabinet I see his scrotum sticking out of the slit of his boxers., embarrassed, I snap my head somewhere else, at the floor opposite of him.
From the cabinet Tim retrieves a single packet of sugar, tears it open, and watches as the little white snowflake like crystals drop into his black coffee. Milk is the finishing additive, then he stirs, peers over at me, yells for Meredith, and sits to enjoy his toast and coffee. I hear him eating, the crisp chew of the toast, the slurp and gulp of the coffee. What is taking her so long, I thought.
“How old are you.” he asks while conveniently looking at a newspaper near him.
“Seventeen.” I tell him quickly.
“Do you like sex.” he said casually as if he had asked me what my favorite color was. I look up at him, my eyes are opened wide.
“What.” I said a little outraged. Meredith walks out of her room not knowing what had happened.
“Good morning dad, oh, hi Laurel.”
“Uh, hi Edith . . . lets go.” I quickly walk out of the house, almost sprinting. Meredith notices a perturbed expression on my face and rests her hand on my shoulder.
“Is everything alright.” she asks in a concerned speech. I hesitate to answer but nod my head.
The sun is shining brightly, people are jogging, walking their dogs, or going somewhere. Even though it is bright, I feel cold, and I dig my cold hands in the pockets of my warming jacket.

I told him not to cry, petting his curly, dirty blond hair, I comforted him what little ways I could. I told him it was okay, that his mother would be here to tuck him in his cushiony crib, kiss him on the cheek, and read a Gary Soto book while he drifted on to sleep. The green lava lamp helped occupy his eyes wonder whatever near two year olds think of. He looked so peaceful when he finally slept.

Help me find a video.

By on May 5th, 2009

A long long time ago. I saw a video online that I would really like to see again, but I can’t remember what it was called. It’s a short animation. short film. In the film this girl is sitting on a chair in an empty room and it’s raining outside. I think. she is at like a acting job interview or something and she starts talking about a serious story. Then she stands up and the room turns into a kitchen at some point and the rain gets louder and more violent outside as she gets more emotional. Then it’s over and she says thank you for the interview or something and leaves. It’s a really good video and I would love to find it again. Thanks for helping.

Which one of these two homes would you prefer to live in. Mid-century modern, or colonial.

By on May 4th, 2009

I’d love to live in both of these homes, but right now I’m in a colonial mood, because I feel like living in New England.

This is the colonial home, built in 1685 -

And this is the modern house, built in 1957 -

My taste goes from one extreme to the other.

Would it be hard for you to decide, like it would be for me.

In the colonial house, I’d change the kitchen, but I’d make it as unobtrusive as possible, just like it is now. I guess with a house that old, there has to be some trade-offs. A big luxurious kitchen just wouldn’t work there.
Lavender - the link didn’t work. I copied and pasted this question, but I had to delete the pasted link, and recopy it from the original web page, then it worked. I’d like to see it.

Dog proof mats. Anyone. Help. :) .

By on May 3rd, 2009

We have a great dog
I think pretty well trained etc
The only ‘fault’ we have (and it drives us nuts) is that he chews our kitchen mat where we stand for the sink, and the mat at the back door

He doesn’t chew furniture etc
* will chew shoes if left out.so that’s our fault. *

Anybody know of mats out there that are ‘dog proof’.
Thanks.

should I work for Vector marketing company.

By on May 2nd, 2009

I am college student and I just saw this summer job for student poster around campus and I applied online. After 2 sec the stuff from vector called me and ask a little question and set up an interview with the manager in the evening. And then I went to the interview that took 90mins. This young hot chick manager told me about the job that pays 17.99 for an appointment to explain about the kitchen knife to customer. She said that I have to buy the knife that cost 450 for demonstration. But she will give me 75%discount. I’m engineering student not like business or marketing student but I have good communication skill n wanna have a little extra cash to spent in summer so I took the job. She wants me to come to work on may 21 for 3 days like 20 hrs training. When I come back home, I did a little research about the company some ppl say that is a scam. Should I work for Vector Marketing company.
