(She waits another second and then starts into the bedroom, but is apparently satisfied that her husband has begun to get up. She stops, pulls the door to, and returns to the kitchen area. She wipes her face with a moist cloth and runs her fingers through her sleep disheveled hair in a vain effort and ties an apron around her housecoat. The bedroom door at right opens and her husband stands in the doorway in his pajamas, which are rumpled and mismated. He is a lean, intense young man in his middle thirties, inclined to quick, nervous movements and erratic speech habits—and always in his voice there is a quality of indictment.) (1 point)

How can I make my partner realise that the DIY really needs doing.

By on May 29th, 2009

Arghh. I have my first baby due in 16 weeks, and although some of you may think that this is quite a while, I am panicking.
My partners house where we live is a right tip, to be honest, im quite ashamed to live there, and I wont have anyone round to visit. We have no kitchen ceiling, which has been like that for 5 years, no central heating, all the skirtings have been chewed from his two staffordshire bull terriers, no carpet on the stairs. the list is endless, I could write forever.
So far, all the promises of getting things done round the house have not materialised. I really dont want to bring our baby back to the home the state it is in. and I dont think im any good at plastering walls/ laying carpets myself so how can I make him realise that its not a joke, it really does need to be done before baby is here. He has all the tools for it, and to be honest Im beginning to think he is just pure bone idol.
I have even told him that If the house is not done to a clean standard when the baby is born, then he will be returning to the house alone until he gets it done.

Without trying to sound like a moaning pregnant woman, this is really serious.
I think some of you have got the wrong impression here. because I dont nag at him at all.that could be why he doesnt see the panic. I have learnt that nagging at men gets you nowhere. And im pretty sure the lady to told me to “get a grip” wouldnt really like to have no carpets and a baby.

I can see here that all im going to get is negative comments. not an actual answer to my question, so is there anyone out there who can actually give me some proper advice and not start biting at me.

First time living on our own - any advice.

My girlfriend and I are in the process of getting an apartment/house (in central Michigan area). We found a couple of nicer, cheaper apartments, but they won’t be available until July.we need somewhere as soon as possible. By the way, we both have jobs that we should be starting soon, at least minimum wage. So anyway, I’m figuring we will each make about $1,000/month once we are working full-time. The houses and apartments we have been looking at are around $500-$700/month. There is one house in particular that we both really like, and it is a lot nicer than the other ones we have looked at. It has a yard, a 2 car garage, 2 bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, living room, and an extra room. We haven’t been able to actually check it out, but we were able to peek in, and it looks really nice (it was just remodeled). This is $650/month plus utilities. As I said in the question, this is our first place; we are college students and have been living in the dorms. Anyway, I’m looking for any kind of advice - is this something we could afford. We’d also have to pay utilities - any idea how much that might cost if we try to keep it low. If anyone could give us any kind of advice that might help us, we would really appreciate it. Thanks.

By on May 27th, 2009

i am getting so annoyed with the ants that are in my kitchen and bathroom.
i have a clean kitchen with no food on the counters and yet there are ants crawling up the wall back behind my cupboards.
also in my bathroom there are tiny ants crawling on the floor and bathtub.
i have sprayed ‘raid’ ant killer and five minutes later there are more that appear. it seems like its a never ending battle between human and ants.
any ideas of what to do. hellp me finally kill all these ants that are pests. they are driving me crazzyyy.

Would it be possible to make a small amplifier for a bluetooth signal to extend the range of the device.

By on May 26th, 2009

I have an iPod with a plug-in Sony bluetooth transmitter chip that sends out wireless signals. If I leave my iPod in most rooms of my house, the signals reach all rooms except our back room, which was added onto the house, and is separated by about 8 inches of brick. I think that the house used to have lead based exterior paints, which were covered before the room was added on (I don’t know if it makes a difference, but it’s worth mentioning). If the iPod is transmitting from the room, the signal for whatever reason is only extended to the basement (which does not lie under the room at all), and is greatly distorted. The doorway into the room has door, and there is a large window that was removed when the room was put on, leaving it open between the back room and the adjacent kitchen. For some reason, the signal does not seem to make it through either, even when lined up so that there is a direct path through the air into the room (I have done some experiments to determine this). I want to know if I could make a small device to hang in either the window frame or the door to either amplify existing signals at that point so that they would reach the room, or receive signals on one side and resend them on the other without distorting them. The reason for this is that I often have several people listening to my iPod with wireless headphones in various rooms, and the back room is a sort of a lounge. If I want to listen while doing schoolwork, but my sister wants to listen while playing video games in the back room, it is impossible. I am in eighth grade, but I have extensive background in electronics, and can build just about anything when I have the components I need (including ICs). Being just a student, however, I do not have access to the things needed to make my own circuit boards. I do have a soldering iron and solder. I have a good amount of money, and I live within walking distance of a Radio Shack, which I can use for basic components and standardized circuit boards. Please give me a detailed description of the device, including a detailed list of components. Schematics would definitely be useful, so either give me a link to existing schematics online, or draw and scan or digitally create you own and email them to me (I will give my email below). If I need to get any ICs, please give all relevant information (brand, serial number, where to buy, etc.). The same goes for any other components not available at Radio Shack. If any of the ICs or unavailable components can be easily scavenged from any common electronics, I’m all for it. Finally, I would like to know the estimated cost and assembly time of the device.

Painting Kitchen Cabinets.

By on May 23rd, 2009

Hello, I’m in the process of repainting my kitchen cabinets. I believe the previous owners tried to stain the all wood, light oak cabinets a dark color and then decided to paint over the stain with a thick oil based white paint. They did a poor job of it. I’ve since removed all the paint using a heat gun and sanding the cabinet frame and doors down to base wood. I want to repaint the kitchen cabinet white but want a professional looking job. My question is what primer and paint should I use. What tools should I use. (I was thinking of purchasing a Wagner HVLP Sprayer) Can I get a professional looking painted cabinet without using a spray gun. Thanks for your help.

In 2007 I bought a $771,000.00 home in Cumming, Ga. What would that house cost in the Columbus, OH area.
