I need help designing my house.

By on April 30th, 2009

My husband and I will be moving into our first, new home on May 15th.
I need help with how to pick a colors for the room. We will get a tan couch for the living room.
The Kitchen and Living room are attached and small. So I want the colors to blend. The bathroom I want maybe black and white. Our bedroom I want modern and “homey”
I like greens, browns, red, black and white. Any help would be great.
Pictures of your ideas or colors would be AWESOME. Thanks.

Can an atheist understand this logic.Or tell me if I am wrong.

By on April 29th, 2009

There is so much irrefutable evidence of design in molecular machinery of life that it’s a mystery to me how so many biology professors can cling to the belief that it all “just happenned”.
When I have asked them for evidence of certain aspects of evolutionary dogma, the best answer I’ve gotten is “Well, we just have to assume that’s the way it happened.” Science isn’t about assumptions; it’s about empirical and experimental evidence. Over and over again, I was asked to believe things for which no evidence existed, and which no experiment ever backed up.
On the other hand, evidence of a creator many orders of magnitude more intelligent than the greatest human geniuses is everywhere you look in nature. The more we learn about the universe, the more we learn about its wondrous complexity, the more the idea that this could be nothing more than the outcome of a random process becomes more and more ridiculous. Physical systems don’t grow in complexity, they don’t accumulate information, they do the opposite.
It couldn’t have happened as the atheists’ theory would have it.
The far more plausible theory is that the information, the BLUEPRINT was present at the beginning.
If you walk into my kitchen and a pot of water is boiling, WHY is it boiling. Science answers partially, with water temperature, etc., but the more meaningful reason is I want a cup of tea, which science misses completely, So also, science misses God completely, and to often, intentionally.
Scientists have spent the past 30 or 40 years trying to induce evolution in fruit flies, whose life cycle is very short. 40 years later, and tens of thousands of generations later, scientists have produced fruit flies with slighlty longer legs, or slightly darker color, but so far all that has been produced are FRUIT FLIES. Forget about turning a fruit fly into a giraffe, ovbiously that would take millions of generations. They haven’t been able to turn a fruit fly into a mosquito.

Best Oil Based Paint for Cabinets.

By on April 28th, 2009

I love the idea of oil based paint for my kitchen cabinets. Can anyone who has had experience with painting kitchen cabinets tell me what they think is the best BRAND of oil based paint. I want to paint them a very rich creamy color. Thank you.

What fraction of a 300-Calorie pizza slice must you eat to supply that energy. PLEASE HELP.

You decide to remodel your kitchen and need to slide the refrigerator across the
horizontal floor over a distance of 5 m. The refrigerator weighs 400 lbs and slides with
constant speed. The coefficient of kinetic friction is 0.30.
a. As you push the refrigerator across the floor, how much work do you do.
b. What total energy do you expend. Assume 25% efficiency.
c. What fraction of a 300-Calorie pizza slice must you eat to supply that energy.

HELP with Kitchen Cabinets.

By on April 26th, 2009

okay, so i am buying a foreclosure. the people that got booted decided to give it to the bank by taking a few things, like the closet shelves, the crown molding, and oh, yeah, the ENTIRE KITCHEN. okay, not all of it. they left the bottom cabinets, minus the doors, and the granite countertops. we are now left with the basic structures of bottom cabinets, granite countertops, and that’s it. so obviously we need to replace the cabinets and get appliances. so here’s the question. what do we do first. is it okay to get the appliances so we can at least move in and have a functioning kitchen. will we be able to put in the cabinets after the appliances. or should we really just get the cabinets done first, and then get appliances. also, do we have to get custom cabinets, or are cabinets pretty standard in size (the spaces for the appliances are pretty much standard). what about the bottom cabinets. can we just find some matching doors to replace them with or do we have to suck it up and completely start from scratch. we don’t have an unlimited budget, so cheaper is better.
thanks in advance.

AC Noise after quiet hours.

By on April 25th, 2009

I’m dealing with a 2 month new upstairs studio neighbor that has installed an AC unit in the last 2 days. They have taken to running the thing all night. Our units are less than 400 sq. ft. I let them know it was causing a noise issue last night yet they are running all night again tonight. after I let them know at 1 AM last night they said they would shut it off. It was installed and running by 7 PM. It was not that hot yesterday and even cooler today. Last night or early Friday Morning I went up and let them know it was and issue We are the only 2 studios in an 11 unit complex and they are the only ones who have done this. They failed to turn it off and after I banged on my ceiling 1 TIME about 30 minutes later. They called the cops on me. When I saw him drive in I asked him who he was looking for and it was me. Freeking unreal. After I go up and try to talk to them first. I was nice though annoyed, he actually said to me,”You can hear it.” I had already let him know that I could hear and clearly make out his words during the many multiple hour cell calls he’s had over my head, and he’s clueless to the notion that an AC unit running at 1 AM is going to be noticeable.
I had notified the managers when I saw them bringing the unit in. They planned to install it in the front of the unit which would have blocked a part of the upstairs walkway. I didn’t think mgmt. would have okay’d this. Workers claimed they did. It wouldn’t fit so they put it in back in the kitchen area where I had already had to move my bed to get away from the noise. I live by stairs and the laundry room, driveway etc. It being a studio. I moved my bed to the back area where the bulk of bedrooms are thinking I’d have some quiet because of the design. Now they put the AC unit right over my head. This is an old building the new tenents are aware of the lack of any sound insulation. They know I sleep away from them.in the back. The flooring cracks loudly and they walk heavy. Now I have no place at all to get a peaceful night sleep. I think the unit should fall under quiet hours rules and can’t understand why they insist on running it all night even when it’s not hot outside. We have another apt building less than 15 feet away from us. There is only one unit there with an AC unit like theirs it’s smaller and it covers a 2 bedroom apt. I have notified mgmt. that it had arrived let them know it was being installed w/out permission and complained that it was causing a noise issue. I have no where else to sleep at any time that is quiet unless they choose to shut it off, now. the people across the way have even shut their windows due to these inconsiderate A-holes. I need to know what I can do I have no where else to try to get some sleep. I have always tryed to be considerate and always extend myself to avoid issues like these. Hell I wear earphones if I watch movies late at night because I don’t want to disturb them just knowing how this place is and these people don’t get a shit. Oh did I mention the massage chair they use right over my work desk that makes my desk vibrate when they turn it on. They didn’t have a clue about that being an issue in an upstairs apt either. I guess the idea of common sense has never been introduced to them. There is no mgr on site, I have let the new people know how lacking this place is as far as soundproofing. I am disabled and can’t even get the he11 away from them. Even getting up the stairs to state the obvious last night was annoying because with the info I already gave them it was a no brainer that the noise would be and issue especially during the night. During the day I don’t give a F@#$ but gees who needs to run AC all night or even air from such a noisy appliance. There is no noise ordinance for something like this. I have been her for almost 4 years and moving for a laid off disabled person is not any option. I am actively trying to find a new career AGAIN with in less than 2 years to go with my new disability and it really sucks to have any extra BS right now.

I need a buy a hose for a RAC heavy pressure washer kit - advice please.

By on April 23rd, 2009

I have been given a RAC pressure washer RAC - HP012 and everything is present apart from the hose that goes between the house tap and the machine. I am useless with anything DIY so im unsure what size hose I need to buy. I purchased a high pressure hose from Wilkinsons (England) and a tap connector with clamp. The tap connector fitted my kitchen taps but the actual hose was far to thin to connect to the connector and the machine. Is there a way I can find out exactly what size hose diameter I require for this type of model please. Thank you

Conditioned overeating - do you agree with my insights.

By on April 22nd, 2009

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090421/ap_on_he_me/med_healthbeat_overeating

The latter article make a summation of the book being written by a Doctor who understands conditioned overeating from a real level. He claims to be an overeater himself, and owns many different sizes of clothing to cope with his up and down weight. He says that, on occassions like walking past a vending machine or food court, for some people, creates an almost irresistible urge to have something tasty.

I wish you would read the article, but I know that not everyone has time. but you get the general idea from my summary back there.

What I’ve found to be an awesome tool in overcoming the urge to eat something bad, is telling myself that I can have it in 5 minutes, but I MUST wait 5 minutes.
I work at McDonald’s, and sometimes I make the pies just for myself. And I was tempted to make some the other day, so much that I started getting out the pans. But then I had to attend to something and left the kitchen.
The very important part of this, for me to tell you, is that my sense of urgency for having a pie went WAY down when I thought that I was going to have one. Just preparing everything and getting ready to cook it, thinking that I WOULD have it, made those nagging, crave-thoughts go away.

Have you ever experienced this.
I think it’s a very useful thing to realize, because by the time I had finished what I had attended to, I simply forgot that I was going to make a pie, thus saving myself 250 calories (250 calories may not seem like much, but that basically equals an hour - the time it takes to burn 250 on the treadmill at medium speed, for my bodytype, anyway).
Perhaps some of you are more die-hard eaters and cannot be swayed until you have the treat in your hands. But try it sometime. Tell yourself that you can have what you want in 5 minutes. When the time is up, tell yourself it will only be another 5 minutes. Who knows, you may outlast the crave.

Everyone knows how and why people become obese, whether or not it’s due to overeating, but the missing link remains to be, ‘how do we control the craving brain.’
I think the aforementioned tactic will help some people.

Opinions/comments welcome.
Thanks in advance.
