Decorating House Rooms Online.

By on March 21st, 2009

I’m looking for an EASY program that allows me to decorate house rooms (bedroom, livingroom, kitchen) online. I don’t want to design something using a blueprint, or use architect tools.I just want to simply have a room, a large array of objects to choose from, and place them anywhere I like. It would be nice if you know of a trial version of such a program so I can use it free for a while.

Glass tile backsplash colors - HELP.

By on March 20th, 2009

I really need help figuring out a color for my glass tile kitchen backsplash. The floor and courntertops are green, like a mid-green, going towards a fern green with rust/red and a lighter greem marbled in. My cabinets are all natural maple colored and my appliances are white. Also, the kitchen faces north so it is not very bright. I want to use a color that will lighten the space and make it feel more inviting and modern. I am not in a position to buy new appliances - I have to work with what I’ve got. I have a small budget. I did try a yellowish/greenish paint color but it made me feel like I was in the caribbean — NOT a look I am going for as it does not go with the rest of the condo. I’d be very grateful for some advice. Glass tile is not cheap and I’m trying to avoid the oops factor.

Many, many thanks for all advice

furniture from haunted house, could it have carried spirits to our new house.

By on March 18th, 2009

We used to live in an area that was known to have a lot of haunted homes. Our house was not exception. I have always believed in ghosts but my dh said that was total bs. Until I heard the ghost standing by the threshold of our bedroom and dh woke up and told the ghost to leave now. This is our home. I was then convinced since I never told him about the ghost that house.
We have experienced many tragedies and hardships in that house.and never thought much of thinking wow we have just bad luck.
The previous owner had a sad life too and towards his end, he did have alzheimers and was convinced someone lived in the attic and had the attic door so blocked it took dh 2 hours to finally open the door.
When we finally put the for sale sign up on the house that night a mirror that was securely bolted to the wall just slammed down for no reason. I guess the ghost was upset that we were going to leave him.

We bought some furniture that was in the house when were buying our house. and we brought that furniture with us to our new house. We have still had our share of tragedies and hardships that seem more frequent than other people we know.
dh is now convinced the bad JU JU from the old house followed us and that we should burn the furniture that we have from the old house. We also have an antique Noritake vase and some old hand tools and a few kitchen tools.
What should we do with them.

What literary devices (similie, metaphor, ect) can you find in this short excerpt.

He took the decanter of water from the hands of his wife and poured out
a glassful. Then, turning half round, he emptied the contents of the
small stoneware flagon into the glass at the same time as he dropped a
lump of sugar into it. In the meanwhile, Therese had bent down before
the sideboard, and grasping the kitchen knife sought to slip it into one
of the large pockets hanging from her waist.
At the same moment, a strange sensation which comes as a warning note
of danger, made the married couple instinctively turn their heads. They
looked at one another. Therese perceived the flagon in the hands of
Laurent, and the latter caught sight of the flash of the blade in the
folds of the skirt of his wife.
For a few seconds they examined each other, mute and frigid, the husband
near the table, the wife stooping down before the sideboard. And they
understood. Each of them turned icy cold, on perceiving that both
had the same thought. And they were overcome with pity and horror
at mutually reading the secret design of the other on their agitated
countenances.
Madame Raquin, feeling the catastrophe near at hand, watched them with
piercing, fixed eyes.
Therese and Laurent, all at once, burst into sobs. A supreme crisis
undid them, cast them into the arms of one another, as weak as children.
It seemed to them as if something tender and sweet had awakened in their
breasts. They wept, without uttering a word, thinking of the vile life
they had led, and would still lead, if they were cowardly enough to
live.
Then, at the recollection of the past, they felt so fatigued and
disgusted with themselves, that they experienced a huge desire for
repose, for nothingness. They exchanged a final look, a look of
thankfulness, in presence of the knife and glass of poison. Therese took
the glass, half emptied it, and handed it to Laurent who drank off the
remainder of the contents at one draught. The result was like lightning.
The couple fell one atop of the other, struck down, finding consolation,
at last, in death. The mouth of the young woman rested on the scar that
the teeth of Camille had left on the neck of her husband.
The corpses lay all night, spread out contorted, on the dining-room
floor, lit up by the yellow gleams from the lamp, which the shade cast
upon them. And for nearly twelve hours, in fact until the following day
at about noon, Madame Raquin, rigid and mute, contemplated them at her
feet, overwhelming them with her heavy gaze, and unable to sufficiently
gorge her eyes with the hideous sight.

Volunteer Hours in vancouver.

By on March 16th, 2009

I need to accumulate at least 10 volunteer hours for school. So far i have 5, but i can’t find any other places to volunteer at. I was hoping to help out at the vancouver soup kitchen, but it all seems very confusing. If anyone had some ideas for volunteer answers, it would be much appreciated.

Looking for antique speaking tube.

By on March 15th, 2009

My house was built in 1903. We have been remodeling our kitchen and have found a speaking tube with no whistle cover. I have looked at antique stores and online auction sites, but can’t find any. If you have any information on where I could buy a speaking tube whistle cover, I would greatly appreciate.
Here is a site that has a picture of what I’m looking for:

I have some issues with my landlord.who do I contact.

By on March 14th, 2009

My husband and I rented a home in Nov of 08. When we looked at the house, a lot of work was being done, and we were told it would be completed by the time we moved in (that was 2 weeks later). When my husband and I came to sign the lease, it was POURING rain out, and we have a baby and toddler, so I stayed in the car. He said everything looked fine when he came back out.

When we ger there, everything that needed to be done wasn’t. Nothing was repainted, the house was super dirty, tools were left everywhere, holes in the ceiling, handrails weren’t placed.I can go on and on. I was very upset with my husband for signing the lease with things like this. I took 100+ photos of everything. We ended up staying almost a week at my mother in laws house so that some more work could be done and hardly a thing was done. Not to mention things are falling apart b/c it was not done properly or is incomplete.

Anyway, its been some time now, and I got tired of calling the landlord asking when his repairman was coming over to do more work. And the best part. His repairman lives next door. Yea.like its hard to get here. Plus the landlord says he’s shy, but then again, doesnt want to come over when we’re not home b/c he doesnt want to be accused if something goes missing.

Now most recently, we have a huge mouse problem.I have gotten 2 on glue traps, found 3 dead (one is inside the light in the kitchen) and have seen several running around. Oh, not to mention they made a hole in one wall, on our sofa and on the 3rd floor stairs. We also have had to buy plastic containers for our food not be be eaten and I’ve seen lots of poop in the cabinets.

Our rent is up to date, and we dont give him any problems. I’m not a confrontational person (my husband even less), but I guess I’m going to have to get b**chy for things to get done. But in case nothing is done after that, what can I do. Who do I contact. My mother in law told me due to the conditions, we actually have a right to break the lease.
Oh yes, and I live in PA

What does “Kitchen sink approach” mean.

By on March 13th, 2009

What does “Kitchen sink approach” mean.

I saw that in the sentence:
- BenQ goes for the kitchen sink approach with the new line of 16:9 monitors.
- The game has been designed using kitchen sink approach.
Thanks guy.
And could anybody explain me why they used “kitchen sink” when they want to tell that they tried everything.

(for example: “Bottom line approach: means the approach that focus on the result which often write in the last line/bottom line of the report)

here, I still don’t understand why they uses “Kitchen sink”. any story’s behind it .
