Sounds like they may be in your walls. Flies will lay their eggs and then die. You could very well have them in the walls and they may be feeding and reproducing on something you can not smell. Do you have an attic. Any bird problems. If so have you looked in the attic. If you can post a pic somewhere I can help you identify the species and then we can figure out what they are doing there :) Do you have a picture of one of them.
