What are some good side dishes.

By on February 18th, 2009

So like. For dinner we eat like the same thing every night. It’s either some form of rice or some form of potatoes. And it’s really starting to get old. So, I was wondering if anyone knows any good side dishes that are easy (and quick) to make and don’t require tons of wacked out ingredients that no one’s ever heard of (basically stuff you actually find around your kitchen/pantry kind of a thing).

Lola,my cat keeps pooping in the lounge.

By on February 17th, 2009

Lola,my cat, keeps pooping in the corner behind my tv cabinet.
Today I came home with a visitor and found a huge pile of poo.
That corner of my carpet is ruined with wee and poop.

I have tried:
lemon juice
white vinegar
dettol
vanish
pepper spray

to try and prevent her from using it as a toilet. Her litter tray today was spotless and I change it every other day unless its really wet.She hasn’t got a urinary infection either.I love her but its driving me nuts and its embarrassing coming home and finding poo.I can buy all the febreeze plug in’s in the world but you can still smell it.
I was going to get new carpets but my lounge is open plan from the kitchen and would cost alot to replace.Given that I have no guarantee she wont poo the minute its been laid what should I do. Its getting to the stage where I’m being to resent her
Re-homing her is not an option.

How far up from the counter do you put glass tile backsplash in the kitchen.

By on February 16th, 2009

I am going to have a small kitchen in my new house. I am going to put glass tile backsplash above all counter space, which is on one side of the rectangular kitchen. I am not sure how far up I should put the backsplash from the counter to the cabinets. The backsplash is 12″ x 12″. I would like it to be decorative, but not overdone.

Should I just do 1 sheet all the way across of the 12″ x 12″ with the exception of the stove area so you can see the paint/wall, go all the way up to the cabinets, or do half a sheet.

Also, at the stove area, should I go all the way up to the vent.

I know it is probably a personal preference, but I would like some advice. I can’t actually find any pics of 1/2 wall tiled, only full wall space on the net. The tile I am using is at the link below and I am using Palm Leaf SW 7735 colored paint from Sherwin Williams.

http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay.jspStoreDir=hdus&catalogId=10053&productId=100627390&navFlow=3&keyword=camoflauge+glass+tile&langId=-1&searchRedirect=camoflauge+glass+tile&storeId=10051&endecaDataBean=com.homedepot.sa.el.wc.catalog.beans.EndecaDataBean%4035a1ca1d&ddkey=Search
When I said the tile all the way across the counter area with the exception of the stove area, I just meant because it would probably go higher than the other areas due to it being the cooking area. But as stated, I was still unsure if I should put that all the way up to the range hood.

How do you think this kitchen idea would look.

By on February 15th, 2009

White Cabinets(with brushed nickel hardware), Stainless steel appliances, black granite countertops and Hardwoods floors.

I want a modern look, does this sound more retro. Suggestions welcome.

The cabinets will definately be white, and the floors will remain hardwood.anything else is up for debate.

Also ideas on wall colors are welcome. I plan to put in a chair rail for a 2-tone in the dining area.
Thanks for the answer sweetpea, it’s actually a house we’re putting an offer on, but the kitchen is in desperate need of help so we’re trying to figure what we would do with it and how much it would cost ect. The hardwood floors are already there so I assumed we’d keep them.just moneywise it’d be cheaper for us.

First time homebuyer.I know I shouldn’t be planning this much out.but it’s so hard not to.
Oh and I was just reading about Silestone, which is supposed to also be a good alternative to granite
Nancy: Those tiles are AWESOME. What color counters would you suggest. I still like the look of granite best(of silestone, or quartz ect)

What is a Good bid on a HUD home.

By on February 11th, 2009

I recently have been looking for a home and found a great prospective buy listed at $105K. The house is located in an excellent neighborhood, appears great cosmetically, but is missing some necessities. First, no furnace or A/C, and no kitchen (applicances, counters, cabinets etc). The HUD report estimates the replacement about $13K and I can do the installs myself. I recently bid $96.5K which includes 5% to broker and $2K for closing. All in all that comes down to roughly $89.5K or 85% of the list price. Is this a solid enough first offer. I really want to get this house without being over bid by another home owner or investor. The house just came out on the market 6 days ago, so I have 4 days left to increase the bid if necessary. Any suggestions.

What is a good net percentage to offer.

HELP PLEASE
Forgot to mention - the 2008 appraisal is listed on the auditors web site at $147.5K

I would really like to keep the total loan under $100K with repairs after $10K down payment

Choosing a network protocol. case project.

By on February 9th, 2009

Nishida Kitchens is a medium-sized company that makes packaged Japanese foods, including noodles and sauce combinations. Its foods are distributed to grocery stores and specialty food stores throughout Canada, Europe, and the United States. The company is moving in to a new building and has hired Network Design Consultants to help them create a new network. Before the move, their head network administrator accepted a job with another company and his inexperienced assistant has been promoted as the head network administrator.

The Nishida Kitchens business and sales unit has 42 computer users. The plant in which the foods are produced, packaged, and shipped has 45 computer users. The company has Windows Server 2003 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers. The business and sales unit used Windows XP Professional workstations. The plant users have a combination of Windows XP Professional and Red Hat Enterprise Linux computers on users’ desktops. The company plans to have Internet connectivity available to all network users. Nishida Kitchens has an outlet store across town which provides the public with direct sales of their products. The outlet store also has Internet connectivity on a small network of 12 computers that are running Windows XP Professional.

What protocol do you recommend for this network, and what are its advantages.

Because you have to travel to the location of the new newtwork, you want the option to remotely access the Windows Server 2003 and Linux servers from your office at Network Design Consultants, and from your laptop computer at home. What options are available for you to accomplish this.

Nishida Kitchens wants the ability to monitor its networks to keep the network stable and to troubleshoot problems. What should they implement to accomplish network monitoring at the main location and the outlet store. How can network monitoring be made secure.

Nishida Kitchens is considering the implementation of their own e-mail server so that employees can exchange email with one another and with others over the internet. What element is important to implement in the e-mail server so that messages can be transported over the Internet. How does this element work.

For WAN communications, such as over the Internet connection, what protocol should be used by the Windows XP Professional and Red Hat Enterprise Linux workstations. What are the advantages of this protocol.
