In California, Is It Legal For My Landlord To Leave Me With NO Working Lights or Electric Outlets.

My house was built a couple of months ago, the landlord had some idiots build my house. When I moved in all the electricity worked in every room but as time went on my room light quit working, my outlets quit working, and then my two other rooms lost all electricity in them but the closets in the rooms have lights in them and they work fine. My Kitchen lights somtimes work and sometimes dont. I have been asking my landlord to fix it, he’s an older man and he forgets everything I tell him. One day he had a guy come with him to look at it but then they didnt have the right tools so he said he would come back and then he never did. I remind my Landlord all the time, he always says okay I’ll get someone to comeover and fix it. I’m fed up now, it’s been like 2 months now. I pay my rent every month and yet he wont do his job as a Landlord.
Does anyone know in California if it’s legal for him to leave me with no working lights or outlets. Or what should I do about it.
This is not the only problem I have had with this house but I do love the house.
Sofa King says:
Whether it is legal or not, you need to do three things:
1. Get a smoke detector
2. Get insurance that covers a fire from faulty wiring
3. Find a new place to live.

No it isn’t legal. California law has a whole list of tenant rights and a properly working electrical system is one of them. Call an attorney or the local police who will steer you to whatever municipal agency that enforces such laws.
