Color scheme for my new house.
By on October 19th, 2008
I recently purchased a house and I’m planning on painting the interiors very soon. It’s brand new so right now is all white. My furniture has earth colors, beige sofas with wood feet, wood color blinds, dark wood furniture pieces and some black wall frames. My dining set is back & wood colors. The kitchen and dining area are open to the living room. Still, I’d like to use more than one color. I was thinking some avocado green for a couple accent walls in the living room, a mustard yellow kitchen (white cabinets, wood floors) and the rest of the house and bedrooms in a neutral or tan color. Except the bathrooms which I haven’t decided yet. Does this sound too crazy. I don’t want it to look like a clowns house, but at the same time the colors seem to go well together. Would this create the “neutral” feeling I’m looking for.
Thanks for your suggesitons.
Exactly. I was thinking blue or even lavender for the master bathroom, it has white cabinets as well.
I can’t live in my house thinking about the day ” I sell it”, I eventually will someday but I’m planning in enjoying it to the max while I’m here.

MY DOGS KEEP DESTROYING MY FURNITURE. HELP.
By on October 17th, 2008
I have 2 male dogs; both are mixed with Labrador and Boxer. Sid possesses all the traits of the Lab, while the Koda possesses the traits of the boxer. Both have been neutered and are going on 12 months. My dogs are getting to the point where they are too large to be crated for 9 hours a day. However, they do not like staying outside for 9 hours either. At this point it is difficult to even get them to go outside because they know we are not coming back right away. It is hard to get them to go outside when we are not leaving and I find myself bribing them with treats just to get them outside, which I should not have to do… But I can’t stay home all day I mean I have to work…
We started leaving them outside because they are too big to be in a cage all day. But they don’t like it, so then we decided that we would just block them in the kitchen, well they moved the cage out of the way and then had free roam of the house. Then we bungeed the cage to the stairs and they jumped over the cage. So then one day we were in the garage cleaning up, and 2 hours later we came in the house to find the arm of the chair destroyed. We patched it up and then they destroyed it again. Well long story the other day the destroyed the arm of the chair while they were in the house. I CAN’T TAKE IT ANYMORE… I don’t want to leave my dogs outside ALL DAY… But at the same time this is not working… They can not keep destroying all my furniture.
They are pretty much destroying our living room furniture every time we leave. They are too big to be crated, and it is getting cold out. We have tried blocking them in the kitchen but they either move the object blocking them in the kitchen or they jump over it.
At this point we do not know what to do, and we can not afford to buy new furniture at this point if they are simply going to destroy it.
I know this is a lot, but we are stuck, and any help is better than no help.
Is there anything that I can do to stop them from destroying the furniture while we are at work, without leaving them outside 5 days a week for 9hours a day.
I appreciate your suggestions in advance.
Possums have moved in.
By on October 16th, 2008
We live in a single wider mobile home with 4 cats that demand access to outdoors 24/7.We have solved that problem by leaving our sliding glass door open about 16″.About a month and a half ago,we were visited by a young possum. My man got him into a corner, gently picked him up ,using a grabber tool with suction cups,(it was the ideal tool to use,as it didn’t hurt the possum. He had a cat carrier ready, put the possum inside, and released him in a better area for a possum.Every few days, another would show up.They got so comfortable,I found one curled up in our alpha cat’s wicker bed.another time, there were two hanging out in the kitchen.has anyone else had a similar experience.
Fact:possums are not dirty nasty disease infested rodents. They are actually the only marsupial native Americans.Alot of people mistakenly put them in the same category with rats and other vermine. They are a shy creature and for God’s sake, they play dead rather than have a confrontation. As far as the rabies threat, all my cats have been spayed or neutered, and are current on their vaccinations PLUS they all have had their rabies immunizations.I am more afraid of my cat’s getting into a fight with another cat,for the simple fact, there is no vaccine to ward off feline FIV.Yes,we have raccoons that actually walk down the sidewalk on hind legs, and they are huge. They don’t approach us and pose no threat.I did not ask for advise on what to do~I merely asked for others who have encountered possums to share their experiences. As for my cats staying in at night, you don’t know these critters, they don’t go out to roam.they stay in our car port and catch some fresh air.cats are nocturnal
By the way,I forgot to mention the fact that my three male cats have befriended these little guys and allow them access to the cat food feeder and do not chase them or make any attempts to keep them from coming inside. On the other hand, they have gone after a racoon that thought he could drop by for dinner~and they chase off cats that try to come in.
Kitchen Islands with suspended seats / Furniture. Are they a good Idea .
By on October 15th, 2008
I was looking at some lovely kitchen designs with suspended seats and wanted some feedback on whether there are any safety or other concerns to worry about with the seats. Personally I think they look great.

My husband and I need alittle help with a “friend”.
By on October 13th, 2008
My husband and I have a “friend” who’s parents needed some remodel and addition work done on a house out at the ranch. To make a long story short they couldn’t make up their mind about floor plans, tile floor, kitchen cabinets, in which I told them that every time they change their mind about something it is costing them time and money because my husband has to sit down and figure out the cost and change to design of the building. They are doing this all while he is already building. The family that will soon be moving into the house already sold their house a year ago and the people who bought it want their house now. So they are making rude comments to my husband because if its not done RIGHT NOW then they will be homeless. Yet they sold their house a year ago so its all on them for the reasons why they waited so long before doing this and selling their house before they had somewhere to move into. He charges them for having to drive 1 hour (one way) and the time he has to sit at the lumber store going over materials because it is all for their job. They think that we are trying to screw them over, and now they are slandering our name all over town. (Unfortunately we live in a small town so it does make a difference) We have done nothing wrong, we are running a business like professionals and I am really trying to keep my cool about this whole situation. Two days ago their daughter, whom we were/are friends with, (who is a lot older than I) wrote some things on her myspace about us. I really would like to confront her about it but do you think I should wait until we are done with this job. I don’t think I need to ask if charging them to go get materials is right because they choose to charge the job time and materials rather than just bid work. I am really fed up with them at the moment and would just like an outsiders view point.
Diy kitchen on a serious budget.
By on October 12th, 2008
How would you go about making a kitchen on a miniscule budget. Electric appliances already bought but virtually nothing left for cupboards. I’m talking a new take on the fitted kitchen.
To clarify (and thanks guys for answering already) I’m looking for some cool ideas for a non -standard looking non-fitted kitchen. Thanks
It’s going to be difficult choosing the best answer. Thanks guys for all the suggestions (e anche lei senor l’Italiano, ciao bello.) good suggestions all round.

National Historic Place Register.could my house be on it.
By on October 10th, 2008
ok so my house was originally built in 1825 and was supposedly a stop on the underground railroad. throughout its history, some noteable people and families have lived there (maybe not ntl. names, but def local for my city) it was also designed by a famous architect in my city in 1900, after it burned down. since then, the interior style has remained much the same, with some exeptions including the kitchen (modern appliances, style and the paint and architecture throughout the house, which isnt anywhere close to what the original color scheme would be. also, the exterior is painted an olive green, as opposed to the original white. do you think that it could possibly be added to the nhpr (dont know if thats even what its called but u kno what i mean right.)
o ya and when it burned down in 1900 the walls still stayed in tact so the original 1825 walls are still there, they just changed the style and built a 2nd floor.
o yess and also the first governor of my state (unnamed for privacy reasons) most likely brought the gingko tree in our back yard over from china.and general lafayette (from rev. war) visited our house at one point
