Do Europeans sometimes look down upon certain types of Americans.

Part of me regrets moving to Florida from New York. Yes, the weather here is perfect, and there are a lot of economic opportunities for those few people willing to get a good education and work, but there are way too many people who are like my neighbors, whom I share a driveway with.

This morning, they were out there, getting Earl Junior ready for school (it’s his second go-round in second grade), revving up their giant truck (that requires a ladder for L’il Earl to climb into), talking really loudly and blocking the driveway. Big Earl and his fat wife were wearing matching NASCAR jackets — you know, with all the labels on them. The color theme was mostly yellow with a big Cheerios logo written across their chests.

So I look out of the kitchen window and Krystka, my European girlfriend, is waiting impatiently on her moped to get by this hulking mass of metal and car exhaust and rednecks. She beeps the little horn on the cute orange moped, but they can’t hear it over their engine.
Finally, she gets off the bike and yells in her cute Polish accent, “Can you move that environmental nightmare, you freakin’ hillbillies.”

They didn’t take too kindly to this, telling her to go back to her own country and to hug a tree. I believe they also called her “Eurotrash.” I ran out and made peace (I never talk to these people), and they went about their business. I find such longtime locals easy to manage, but Krystka, on the other hand, had a difficult time with them. I have heard her making fun of less educationally advantaged white Americans before, come to think of it. For example, she told my daughter once that a boy who was interested in her in school, the son of a single mom who works part-time as a lunch aide, would someday be “pumping gas” and to aim higher. Another time, Krystka said that she refuses to shop in Walmart because “the dregs of humanity shop there, drinking beer in the parking lot and belching.”
As she sped away on her moped, she gave my redneck neighbors the finger, and I tried to laugh it off with them.

Krystka herself comes from a humble village in Poland. Is it common for Europeans to think less of certain types of Americans.
(Wako, No, please, I’m looking for honest answers. Part of me thinks that many Europeans see certain positive types of Americans in movies and on TV, then they come here and bump into rednecks and such, and their expectations aren’t met. Or the Americans we send on trips to Europe aren’t always our best and brightest.)

i know this lady with a 3 year old boy that still drinks from a bottle. i think that is disgusting. when the child is around me i am disgusted because his mouth smells like an adult with halotosis. i think its from the bottle. he has a mouth full of teeth and he is bad as ever, so why is he still drinking from a bottle. he digs up his butt when he takes a crap and his mother does not wash his hands. I have a month old baby and when he is at my house with his mom, i dont let him get close because he digs his nose constantley and digs his butt when he has $hit in his pull up. he is always touching something in my house too. his hands are everywhere. he opens my beautiful kitchen cabinets and jumps on my furniture. I dont want any germs around my new baby. do you think im wrong for not wanting him here. I think he is too big to $hit in his pants anyway and not say he has to use the bathroom. what do you think.
For the record. Me and my man put alot into this house and everything is expensive. And his mother doesnt tell him to stop when he is touching everything. the funny thing is, his mother sees him doing this.

QUESTION ABOUT HOUSE CLEANING AND VISiTORS.

I have two kids. I clean about four to five hours a day sometimes more. vaccuum everey day, sweep everyday, wash floors about three times a week, clean toilets and bathroom everyday, do dishes everyday, Windex everyday, dust everyday, clean the fridge twice a week, clean kids room, do a load of wash everyday, etc. Sometimes I do not have time for under my kitchen cabinets and in the closet etc. I have a small apartment so I sometimes have a few junk drawers but that’s it. My closet is stuffed and it wouldnt be bad if it just stayed closed but everytime I have company which is about twice a week they are always in my closets and under my cabinets, They need screw drivers, pots and pans, shirts, you name it it just doesnt stop.looking for glasses in my cabinets etc. Not all that stuff is perfect sometimes it is not all that clean cause I dont have all new stuff. I get so embarrassed when they ask for a pot and then make a face when it has a grease stain.
Question is how to handle vistors that are in all your stuff . I feel like a maid yet I still feel like doo doo when company comes over:(
I feel like my vistors are looking for stuff to insult me about. Could this be. This is mostly my husband’s family. I don’t go to their house much but when I do I wouldn’t dream of going in their things. I am so sad. I love theem but I canlt take the stress before they come over never knowing what they will find in the back of my cabinets etc. What should I do. Please help. I am a nice person and I do not wean to hurt anyone.

Ideas for a 1950’s kitchen.

I’m remodeling my kitchen using a 50’s theme: I have the old appliances, stove/fridge (white) and dinette set (red table/white chairs) already. What type of lighting was used in this era. Recessed. I’m going to paint my cabinets (not sure what 50’s color), what kind of countertop should I use. Stainless. Of course I’m going with the black/white checkered floor and same color mini tile for the backsplash. Maybe I chrome outer edge of the countertop. What colors were the walls primarily- white with a hint of coor as the cabinets (50’s teal/blue). I need help choosing colors being a single guy. I can’t match for shite. Any ideas I on what was popular back then I would appreciate.

HUSBAND AND I WANT TO BUILD A HOUSE. How much will it cost.

Okay we found a nice location for sale and we want to build our first home on it. My husband recently finished orthodontics school but worked as a dentist while he was in orthodontics school so we have some money saved up and would like to build a nice little home for us and our brand new baby. We are currently living in an apartment. Here’s what we’d like our house to be like.

1 story. 3 bedrooms. 2 bathrooms. Kitchen. Dining area. Family room and a small porch out back.
We are thinking of making it out of brick.
I would LOVE for it to be made out of stone and wood but I’m thinking that would make it cost a lot more am I right. And if so how much more.
We arent plannning on have a living room, is that a buy idea and will it make it harder to sell.

I’m just wondering what you would estimate a house like this costing. Thanks for you answers.

I’m planning to put a ceramic tile backsplash above my cooktop in my new kitchen, and I’d like to do something that expresses my Italian (specifically Sicilian) heritage. My countertop is brown and my floor has brown tile accents. My walls are green and my cabinets are a honey maple color.

I’d like to find tiles that can either be painted and sealed, or are already painted in a design that is Italian, if not Sicilian, in origin. Any suggestions for retailers or companies. I also don’t want to spend as much on the tiles for a 30×30 inch area as I did on the countertops.

kitchen remodel.

we are fixing a little bit of the kitchen and one of the things is we are painting the cabinets and putting new hardware on them. currently we are using the flush mount hinges. i am looking in to blac nickel hardware, BUT i dont see any that also have the flush mount hinges. at least not for the look i was going for. can i go to just about any hinge.

I tried to restain my kitchen cabinets without sanding and now it’s sticky. What can I do now to fix this.

There were some worn spots around the handles and I thought I could just restain the worn areas. When I did that it didn’t match close enough and so I just wiped stain over all the cabinet doors and it looked really good but now it won’t dry. What do I have to make it dry. I realy don’t want to sand everything down if there is another alternative.
