Need help with color scheme for my new house.

We will be moving and our new home (after we remodel) will have a mudroom that enters into the kitchen, which flows into the dinette and then into the great room . The mudroom (which will actually be a lovely laundry room with white cabinets) is the only room that can be closed off. The others all flow into one another. So I’m thinking that the colors are all going to need to coordinate. The cabinets are a medium (not a honey) oak, but are dated and I would like to paint them. I will be getting all new appliances, and had thought about stainless steel, but am concerned about fingerprints. My hubby has even less knowledge of decorating than I do, but likes the color blue. When I think blue in a kitchen, I think country, which isn’t my style. But I do like slate blue and I like chocolate brown. Should I paint the cabinets white and then accent with the slate and chocolate throught all the rooms. What color for the walls. Advice. My furniture will be neutral shades mainly.

Downstairs main living areas are supposed to be in colors of the same family for consistency and flow. Most of the new homes today are done in a neutral of some sort. I chose 2 similar sage colors throughout including my kitchen and breakfast. You can update your kitchen cabinets by sanding and re-staining and adding new hardware. White or off-white is fine if you prefer. I have all stainless appliances and little to no fingerprint issues but I use a stainless polish on them. The newer stainless aren’t at all like the older appliances. My cabinets and floors are cherry with black/gray/white granite. You can also look at taupe colors since you seem to like the gray, brown palette without getting too dark with a chocolate. Try to avoid getting too bright or dark with your color scheme. My sages really makes everything warm and inviting and everything seems to pop against it. Get some color wheels from your local hardware and put up the ones you like. Colors look different at different times of the day and night. I had color swatches up for a while before I made my choices.

In the kitchen: you could try white cabinets, and if you are redoing the floors and counter tops then try hardwood floors, a nice granite overlay in the following color http://www.coldspringgranite.com/granitecolors/SapphireBlue.html Defintely do stainless steel appliances, white is blah, and black you just can’t keep dust free.
for wall color stick to neutral in the adjacent room if it is the dining room. if it is the front room try the slate blue, neutral furniture and chocolate accessories. then in the room adjacent to it try a khaki color wall. with silver and slate accessories.
the khaki, slate blue, and chocolate makes for a clean style.
Have fun.
