ok i am trying to rebuild my kitchen from scratch. i just bought a house and the kitchen is horrible. however, i have an uncle that has worked as a carpinter for over 20 years and does kitchens but he just gets a bluprint and builds from it and the owner of the business provides the wood and whatever material is required.so i guees my question is, what is the best Wood that beautiful homes use in their kitchens. i want my kitchen to have a chocolate modern starbucks color to it. I want to be able to provide the best looking and best quality wood and say “uncle i want you redue my kitchen with this wood, with this stain.” what is the best way to get my point accross and the best wood period. please help me i know my wife wants a very nice kitchen and i can make it happen if i just buy the wood myself. oh and another question. how much does this great wood run for . $$$ . how much to build a small to medium size kitchen. no labor just talk about the wood.

thanks

This is a bit subjective. There are some good woods to choose from but no truly best wood

Many people who like a stain and varnish or just a varnish finish, use either white oak, red oak or ash. I’m partial to ash because it tends to be a bit lighter in color.

Birch is also used by some.

If you want to know what these woods look like go to a HomeDepot or Lowes and look at their hardwood section.

Up scale choices are maple, cherry, walnut and mahogany. These are a good bit more expensive.

If you want to consider painted finish then poplar is the very best choice with pine coming in second.

With out more detail it is very difficult to make a guess on material costs but it is all going to be expensive. As an example a 4′ by 8′ sheet of 3/4 oak plywood can run $75 to $100.
