You will need to clean the cabinets real good before painting.
They can become very greasy in the kitchen and if they are the paint won’t stick.

Clean the cabinets really well with vinegar and water. Apply a good quality primer, paint with a quality paint. To get the wood effect, there is a roller at Lowe’s that will simulate the wood grain, just roll it through while the top coat is still wet. It helps if there is a lighter color paint underneath.

Oh, BTW, if you plan on putting knobs or handles on the cabinets where there was none before, drill the holes BEFORE starting to paint. Drilling will chip the new paint.

I have painted all my cabinets . very successfully.

A few simple steps.
1. Clean them using TSP and let them dry completely.
2. Prime them with the primer needed for the type of cabinet you have (asked at the paint store if you are unsure.)
3. Paint with a satin finish.

Good luck.
