How to decorate a very long, thin backyard patio.

By on March 8th, 2008

Our patio is newly tiled & the length of our house, but only 9 feet wide. This is not a deck, it’s right off the house & sits on the ground.

We have a chair/table set for 6 which I planned on setting up in front of the 2nd window (there’s french doors, bedrm window#1, bedrm window #2, kitchen door). But what to do w/ all that other space.

I’ve considered chaises, conversation sets (chairs & coffee table), swing.I just don’t know where to start.

Any ideas.

Keep in mind we’re in the middle of a remodel/construction. 2 pics:

Where to start depends on a few things:

The type of use the veranda gets.
Do you need to BBQ out there
Do children need room to play (you said it runs the length of the house, so assume this is your backyard per se)
    What does the veranda face.
How much sun, light is there for plants.

You’ve mentioned all the usual ideas. Chaises are great if you like to lounge or the veranda faced a view.

A couple of things that I think would help would be to use a room planner to play with different set ups. BHG.com has one.

If you don’t belong to any decorating forums, this is a great question for one. Most magazines have a message board.
