How do I “foil finish” a wood surface.

So here’s the deal. we just bought a new house, and we are putting in a whole new kitchen. There are some IKEA kitchens that I LOVE, but they’re not in the budget. My father in law is a cabinetmaker, but I want to replicate the modern IKEA look.
I am trying to find information on creating a metallic foil finish on wood and having no luck. Not a silver or gold, but a metallic white or blue finish effect.
The IKEA cabinets that I love are described as “foil finish” (and they’re basically particle board underneath), which is what gave me the idea that perhaps we could DIY this look.
Is there a product I can buy that we can laminate wood cabinets to mimic the look of the IKEA kitchens. Like a foil we can apply ourselves.

Or maybe just paint the wood with many coats of paint and then laquer.

We have a moulding manufacturer in our city that makes moulding that has a foil pattern. They use a foil that works on wood and run the moulding through rollers and heat to press on the foil. I would be a skeptic about using this on cabinets even it you laquered it.

re-face your cabinets with “Melamine Foil”. It’s a veneer glued over the particle board/plywood with contact cement. I have seen rolls of it for sale at Home Depots, but if you plan on doing a lot of surface area, it would be much cheaper to buy larger rolls, maybe online. I would try looking though your in-laws cabinet making supplies catologs.
