I have an idea for a new business, do you think it is a good idea.
By on March 30th, 2008
I have invested in property and as a result have thrown myself into all kinds of DIY and refurb projects. I have found that prior to trying to sell a property there is a lot that can be done on a shoestring budget that will dramatically add value to the property, or at the very least increase its saleability (simple redecoration and dressing the property with modern furniture so to “sell the lifestyle”).
What I plan to do is set up a business as a ‘house doctor’. My business would provide free consulations and then for & fee of between approx. £1000 and £3000 would carry out the agreed work (to include-painting, freshening up of bathroom/kitchen grouting, replacing light fixings, door handles, other fixings etc. and fully dressing the property including curtains, bedspreads/dressings, throws, cushions, vases, decorations etc etc etc).
My initial leads will come from estate agents who have clients that are struggling to sell.
What do you think of the business idea.
Was also thinking that long-term I could sell franchises - with the franchisee benefiting from training (in the selling part, not the DIY), discounted suppliers, etc etc.
Do you think that this type of franchise could be a success.
Can countertops be painted or resurfaced.

I am updating my kitchen, including painting the walls, stripping and painting my cabinets, and replacing the linoleum floor. My countertops are in perfect shape, but the design on them is extremely outdated. Is there a special paint or shelac or something like that I can use to change their appearance.
Where to buy the unicoupler hoses for Portable Washing machine.
By on March 27th, 2008
I have a GE spacesaver portable washing machine and need the hoses that connect to the kitchen sink for apartment living.
I cant find a website or store that carries the unicoupler. It is a standard size item so I am frustrated when I cant locate it online. Perhaps I am using the wrong name for the part. It has one hose that connects to the machine for water intake, the other hose is to drain and they are both connected together on the other end (unicoupler) and hook up to my kitchen sink. Does anyone know where I can buy one. Thank you.

Music studio in a garage
Music is your hobby and you want to practice with your band.
The only available place that you can think of is your garage but you
also have neighbors that must not be disturbed while you are
practicing. The only solution to use your garage as a music
studio is to soundproof it or build a small studio in one corner of
the garage. For this you need to use two existing garage walls
and build another two new walls on an angle to improve the
acoustics of the studio.
After measuring the angle you will have to anchor sole plates to
the garage floor and frame the first new wall. After finishing the
framing for the second wall and adding a door to this one you
have to insulate the garage walls to help deaden the sounds. Next
you will hang drywall on the new walls and patch the seams. The
final layer of sound-deadening material will be applied to the
walls and to the ceiling. This layer is made of some secondhand
carpeting. After applying these carpets you can cover them with
some strip boards pinned onto the wall with nails.

what should i do.

there’s a person i like and he’s going to go over to my house today or tomorrow. im not going to be there. i have a certificate of perfect score in math up in the kitchen wall. i want him to see it, so i told my grandpa to put it up on the living room wall. i don’t want him to sense my intention, so i just asked him why he would put this on this wall. so he said he’s going to put it in his room. i told him to put it in the living room, but im not sure if he’s going to follow up on this. he’s ambiguous at times. the reason i want him to see it is because he knows about my mental condition and i want him to realize that im ill because i have a high intelligence. i always think about what he would be thinking about me and he thinks that im not that good with things to do with my hand like handling tools, so i put something i made on the tv, which is black and the thing i made i very bright coloured colourful spring. my grandpa saw this whole thing and he probably thinks im nuts.

i was doing this while i was late. he might already have a sense that i like him, but i don’t want him to know more about it. im going to ask him if he put the certificate up on the living room wall, but would he sense my intention. he said that no one is coming to our house, but i know that he is because i heard him talking on the phone. 2 ways to get into our house, but someone doesn’t like people coming in the other door, so he’s going to come into the living room door. most of all, i don’t want him to notice this. would my grandpa tell this guy that i made efforts to show this to him if he senses my intention.
should i tell my grandpa to take it off the tv and ask him if he put it in the living room. im worried that he might talk about this to that person that i was in a hurry to do it and it must be probably because i wanted to show him. i don’t want anyone to know about my feelings, so im very careful.
this person is 40 years older than me.

Vegan Cookbooks.
By on March 25th, 2008
My favourite vegan cookbooks are Donna Klein’s Vegan Italiano and Vegan Kitchen. I love them because I’m not a fan of soy and other vegan meat replacers, and I LOVE European cuisine. I was wondering if anyone has tried any of the “A Vegan Taste of.” cookbook series by Linda Majzlik . I would like to try “A Vegan Taste of France” and “A Vegan Taste of Greece”, but I can’t find any thorough reviews on the books. If you’ve used one, does the author use a lot of soy. And how are the recipes in general. Easy to make. Hard to make. Tasty. Hrm. Any input is appreciated.

Insulating you garage You recently bought a house

Insulating you garage
You recently bought a house that has a bedroom addition above the
garage but it is not insulated. Adding insulation should make those
rooms more comfortable and save on energy bills. There are several
options for insulating above the garage. Depending on the local
building codes, the size of the area, whether you decide to hire a
professional or do it yourself and maybe the most important
factor is your budget.
If you have a sheet rocked garage, the fastest way would be to have
blown-in insulation installed behind the sheetrock. A fair warning
here, the blown-in insulation may be expensive if your garage
is small. If your garage is not sheet rocked you have to install
lame-spread rated batt insulation and cover it with sheetrock. First check
your local building codes for the requirements of the thickness of the
sheetrock for garages including fire safety rules. The lack of smoke detectors in
a garage and the possible storage of flammable and combustible
liquids can cause a garage to be considered a hazardous space. This is
the reason why you should contact a local contractor to help you
in insulating this space.

How do you crack a coconut open on a deserted island.
By on March 24th, 2008
I know how to do it in my kitchen. but, say you got shipwrecked on a tropical island and you have no tools at your disposal, you’re starving to death, and all that’s around is coconut trees. How do you crack a coconut open with just what’s available without spilling the milk. Is there any survival technique.
Also, how do island dwellers open their coconuts. Do they use specific tools, or do they just use what’s available.
Is is relatively easy and/or inexpensive to move a load center to another wall in an apartment.
By on March 23rd, 2008
We are thinking about redesigning our kitchen and would like to move our load panel from a wall in the middle of our kitchen to one around 4 feet away. This would allow us to take down the wall where the load panel is currently located and will open up many design options. I need to know if this is a complex and expensive task, and if anyone has a sense of how much this might cost.
