Basic Dishwasher Installation Tips
Installing a built-in dishwasher requires basic mechanical, electrical, and plumbing skills, so the average handy person can install a dishwasher in 1 to 3 hours depending on if it is a new installation or a replacement dishwasher. If you are replacing an existing dishwasher, it will take less time.
New Installation
1. Prepare the cabinet area in which the dishwasher will be installed. The opening should be 24 inches wide for most models, 24 inches deep and 34 1/2″ from the floor to the underside of the countertop. The back wall can not have pipes or wires on it. The power and water supply lines will come into the cabinet in the 4″X4″ area at the bottom back of the cabinet through a 1 1/2″ hole. Make sure the floor is level and the cabinet is squared.
2. Choose your drain method based on your local codes and height of the drain tee. Some codes require an air gap. If the drain tee is less than 18 inches from the floor, you must use an air gap. If an air gap is not required and the tee is over 18 inches from the floor, you can use the loop method for the drain connection. If the drain hose will be connected to a garbage disposal, you have to remove the knock out plug so that the dishwasher will drain.
3. Inspect or install wiring by making sure there is a 120V, 60Hz dedicated circuit with a 15 or 20-amp breaker or time delay fuse. Wiring has to be 2 wire with a ground and rated for 75 degrees Celcius or 176 degrees Farenheit. The wiring can come into the cabinet from either side in the rear bottom area. The hole should be a maximum of 1 1/2″, and it can be the same hole used the the water supply line and drain hose if its being hardwired. If it is a flexible power cord, it must have a separate hole. Hardwiring cable will come up the right side along the bottom 24 inches of the cabinet to the right front electrical connection on the dishwasher.
4. Prepare the water supply line that enters through the 1 1/2″ hole in the rear bottom of the cabinet. Turn off the water to install a hand shut-off valve under the sink. The water connection is on the left side of the dishwasher. Use 3/8″ O.D. copper line to extend a minimum of 19 inches from the rear wall. The water heater should be set between 120 and 150 degrees (closer to 120 if children are in the home to prevent scalding accidents) and the pressure should be between 20-120 PSI.
5. Prepare the dishwasher by checking the door balance and adjusting the spring tension if necessary. If the legs have to be attached, do that close to where it will be installed.
6. Connect the drain hose to the dishwasher’s drain port if it did not come factory-installed. Position the electrical wiring and water supply lines so that the base of the dishwasher will not catch them. Slide the dishwasher in front of the opening so that you can feed the drain hose through the hole you drilled for it.
7. Inch-by-inch slide the dishwasher into the cabinet as you fee the drain hose through its hole. Stop with a few inches left and make sure nothing is kinked or pinched. If all is in good order, push the dishwasher all the way in so that the edges of the door are behind the cabinet frame. Test the door for smooth opening and closing.
8. Level the dishwasher front to back and side to side by adjusting the leveling legs.
9. Align the brackets and secure the dishwasher to the countertop according the manufacturer’s instructions.
10. Through the access panel, connect the water supply line and electrical supply. Also connect the drain hose under the sink. You are ready to do a wet test with the “rinse only” cycle. Check for leaks and proper draining.
Replacing an Existing Dishwasher
You will not need to drill the holes since they will already be there from the existing dishwasher. However, you do need to inspect the wiring and plumbing to make sure they are capable of servicing the new dishwasher. Once that is established you should turn the power off at the main and turn the water supply off before beginning the removal of the old dishwasher. All lines and wires must first be disconnected. Take the drain hose off the garbage disposal or drain pipe under the sink. If the dishwasher has a power cord, you need to unplug it. If the dishwasher is hardwired, you have to open the access panel and electrical junction box. Remove the wire nuts and disconnect the black and white wires. Also remove the ground screw to disconnect the green ground wire. Use a catch pan while disconnecting the water supply line. Once all of these lines and wires have been disconnected, you can take out the screws and brackets that hold the dishwasher in its place and carefully pull out the old dishwasher.
Then follow the same procedures to install the new dishwasher with the exception of drilling the holes and running the wiring and water supply lines.
Once you have installed your new dishwasher and tested it for leaks, you are ready to start cleaning.

Discount Kitchen Cabinets: Efficient and Affordable
Perhaps nothing is as original and wonderful as a cabinet. Now, you think about the one place in your home that those cabinets are the center point and the kitchen comes to mind. Kitchen cabinets are an important - no vital - point to any home. When you decide which kitchen cabinets best suit your personality and home, discount kitchen cabinets may come to mind as being efficient as well as affordable.
You can get discount kitchen cabinets at a lot of local merchants. The best place to start is a local home improvement center. Sometimes these merchants will have a selection of discount kitchen cabinets for you to choose from. Not happy with that choice? Well, you can find a local specialty shop. These shops will offer a selection of various type of kitchen cabinets; among that selection may be the discount kitchen cabinets. Not finding what you want? Maybe it is time for you to consider searching the Internet. This is a popular option for today’s popular market. Nothing is quite as useful as a computer and an Internet connection. You can find merchants wanting to showcase their wares for your home viewing pleasure.
You get a wide variety of choices when you decide what type of discount kitchen cabinets you are wanting. One popular choice concerns the manufacturer, other choices may include styles and colors. Of course, you will get better prices for such things as closeout sales. However, you may be stuck if you need special cabinets that match those discount kitchen cabinets if it is a closeout sale. You have to ask yourself if it is worth the cost. The choice is completely personal but you may save a lot of money so you have to way the options yourself.
When you get ready to purchase any cabinet, you should always measure precise instructions so that you know what you need for your cabinets. Of course, once you have measurements, the local home improvement stores will usually have a large number of associates willing to help you decide on one particular purchase. If you do not know which to decide, take a few moments to consider how those cabinets will look when decorated in your kitchen. This visualization is usually handy when choosing your discount kitchen cabinets.
Now that you have purchased the perfect discount kitchen cabinets, it is time to install them! This is not an easy task no matter how experiences you are. It is nice to have a helper, but you can get those easily if you have a spouse or older children. You should make sure to have all the necessary hardware before you start. This is vital to any home improvement project, but maybe more so with cabinets. Nothing is as frustrating as discovering that your cabinets can not be completed because you forgot to purchase the proper attachments. You should also take steps to insure that your cabinets are secure. Following these steps will insure you a safe and happy kitchen with your new discount kitchen cabinets.

How to Fix a Clogged Kitchen Sink A
By admin on December 11th, 2007
How to Fix a Clogged Kitchen Sink
A clogged kitchen sink only happens when the house is full of visitors and the kitchen is abuzz with drink mixing and food preparation. It never happens when you’re in a do-it-yourself, experimental mood. Oh no, a clogged kitchen sink, by the very laws that govern human existence, can only occur at the worst possible time. But never fear, there are some quick tricks and tips that will have your clogged kitchen sink back to normal in no time.
Before you run out to the store to pick up some liquid drain cleaner, there are several natural ways to unclog a kitchen sink that tend to be just as effective as the chemical drain unclogging products. At least give these natural, not to mention CHEAP, alternatives to commercial drain unclogging products before resorting to those caustic products.

Additionally, you may wish to boil a pot of water while you wait for the vinegar and baking soda mixture to do its work. When it comes time for step number five, pour the boiling hot water down the drain. This will certainly add some additional oomph to your natural drain unclogging recipe.
Another thing that can really come in handy is a plunger. Just like a toilet, using a plunger to work the clog back and forth, will eventually break it loose as the water washes it down the drain. If you employ a plunger for your clogged kitchen sink situation, you will most likely need to add some water to the sink to create a seal that the plunger can work with in order to remove the clog.
Also, regularly pouring very hot water down the drain can make clogs much less frequent if not altogether stop clogs. If you have a small, incomplete, clog in your kitchen sink, you may use the hot water technique a couple of times a day to resolve the problem over a few days. Hot water will eventually remove almost all clogged kitchen sinks by itself.
If the above tips do not work, feel free to try a popular commercial drain clog cleaning product, but odds are that it will not be any more effective than the above recommendations. If the steps above do not work, you’ll need to snake the drain, which is gross, but thoroughly entertaining.

Cheap Kitchen Sinks If you’ve gotten very deep
By admin on December 10th, 2007
Cheap Kitchen Sinks
If you’ve gotten very deep into your home redecorating project and it’s time to find a new sink for the kitchen, chances are you are really interested in some cheap kitchen sinks right about now. Not cheap in the sense that the thing won’t be around years from now, yet cheap in the sense that you don’t want to have to pay for the salesperson’s rent for the entire month.
So where does one go when it’s time to find the best in cheap kitchen sinks? Well, if you did what I did and simply typed the phrase “cheap kitchen sinks” into your usual internet search engine, you’ll soon discover that nearly all the results on the first few pages of results are complete excrement -totally irrelevant to your search for useful information, unless you can navigate your way through their ads and other affiliate marketing drivel to something more viable. Good luck.
Instead, try revising your search or going with a helpful consumer oriented website such as http://www.ConsumerReports.org . By utilizing one of these very popular and handy consumer websites, you can find out a lot about pricing as well as others’ experiences with the very models of cheap kitchen sinks that you have been considering.
If you wish to revise your search, try including some search terms that will produce results similar to the Consumer Reports website, such as “reviews”, “rate” or “compare prices”. By adding some additional terms to your search query, you’re much more likely to come out with results that are relevant to what you’re looking for.
The trick to making a search engine work with you instead of against you though, is to keep revising until you see more relevant search results than irrelevant results. This most likely will include adding exclusions to your search terms. When you see irrelevant search results that have a repeating phrase or word, simply add it to your search terms with a “-” (minus symbol) placed directly in front of the word or phrase that you wish to exclude. This way, any website that contains that word or phrase will not be returned to you as a search result.
Additionally, if a set of words are a specific phrase, be sure to enclose the phrase with quotation marks, such as “cheap kitchen sinks”. This can make a drastic difference in your search results, as well as your ability to retain some semblance of sanity AND use internet search engines at all.
It’s only a matter of time before internet search engines become smart enough to weed out all the bogus, ad-littered websites from search results. Before long it will not be such a challenge to find relevant information, but until that time comes, we must make an effort to manipulate the search engines if we are to find that which is relevant to our respective pursuits.
The internet is a great tool to comparison shop. After all, the only way to find the best deal on cheap kitchen sinks is to do some comparison shopping. With the internet you can comparison shop across dozens or even hundreds of stores, all from the comfort of your home or office. Whether you end up purchasing from a local retailer or online, the net is definitely the place to start.

Tips For Buying A Dishwasher Over half the
By admin on December 9th, 2007
Tips For Buying A Dishwasher
Over half the households in America have a dishwasher. In fact you are probably already quite familiar with the use of one and you probably already know how much time can be saved using one. If you don’t own a dishwasher, here are some great tips for buying a dishwasher.
Dishwashers can vary in price from a couple of hundred dollars to over a thousand. The more you spend doesn’t mean the cleaner your dishes will be. It simply means you’ll get more bells and whistles. You can buy a dishwasher that will keep your family dishes clean for around $200.
Many older homes never had a place for a dishwasher but as more and more people remodel their homes they are making way for a built in dishwasher. And the industry is quick to take note with many different manufacturers offering a variety of different models to fit almost any type of kitchen and any budget.
ASKO, Miele, and Bosch are just three that have been setting the standard. In fact that bar is getting pretty high to jump. We are seeing ultra quiet machines with sophisticated controls, highly efficient machines with complete stainless interiors and they are only costing around the $1500 mark. This is a very niche market.
But what should the average consumer look for? Here are some great tips!
1. Quiet
These days everyone wants a dishwasher that purrs like a kitten and hardly makes a sound. Silence is truly golden. Families are tired of listening to dishwasher pumps drone on and they are tired of having to yell or talk over it. Modern technology has meant a considerable improvement in the noise level of the modern dishwasher. 2. Energy Efficiency
The 1990s saw federal regulations that set standards for new dishwashers. But today’s dishwashers far exceed those standards. The manufacturer’s quickly recognized how important this was becoming to the consumer and thus a great deal of energy was used to build a dishwasher that was exceptionally efficient. 3. Stainless Steel Tubs
Many makers are not building with a stainless interior. Although they certainly can’t compete in price to a plastic tub what they can offer is a quieter machine, a machine that is more durable and easier to maintain, and a machine that is much more efficient in drying. 4. Capacity
A conventional dishwasher is 24 inches wide. There are larger and smaller models on the market so if the standard size isn’t going to work shop around. 5. Styling
Controls have become much easier to use over the years and styling has become more stylish. Lines are sleek, buttons are classy, and the overall look is elegant, sleek, and polished. The 21st century dishwasher has a whole new look.
Whether you’ve owned a dishwasher before and you are in the market for a replacement or this is your first purchase, just follow these 5 tips for buying a dishwasher and you’ll have the best dishwasher that your budget can buy. There’s no reason to have dish pan hands these days!

Building Your Own Kitchen Cabinets When you want
By admin on December 8th, 2007
Building Your Own Kitchen Cabinets
When you want a kitchen cabinet you want something that is going to express your personality without costing a lot of money. No one heads out to spend a fortune on something as simple as a kitchen cabinet. However, there are times that it is not feasible to purchase what you need. Then you may find it better to find a way to build your own. Building your own kitchen cabinets is an exercise in patience, skill, and love. I am not saying you have to love those cabinets, but it is a good idea to at least admire the work once you are done.
Where do you start? Well, first you need to decide if you are capable of creating your own. If you are not capable of creating your own, it may be a good idea to have a carpenter in your local area create them for you. A good carpenter can take your dreams and your imagination, put it on paper, and then make those a reality. Of course, a carpenter charges a fee for his time and effort. This fee will vary per carpenter and never assume the more you pay the better the carpenter. This is a fallacy that could cost you more than you expect.
A carpenter can be found in your local telephone directory. If you cannot figure out how to look them up in your local telephone directory, do what I do: look via the Internet. There are many ways that you can find a good one. Most directories via the Internet even give additional details. I found that the best way to find a good carpenter is actually word of mouth. Carpenters understand the importance of word of mouth as well. If you find a carpenter by word of mouth, let that carpenter know who recommended him or her.
Of course, there are a few things you should keep in mind with a carpenter. You should always sit down with a carpenter and get a free estimate. Ask the carpenter about the experience he or she has. Find out if they have references. Do they have a portfolio? Find out the policy of the carpenter should they go over budget. What do they envision for your kitchen? Often, a carpenter can come up with excellent ideas if you are stumped. In addition, a carpenter should always be forthcoming with any details you ask. It is a great idea to find out how long it will take the job to be completed as well. Always remember that you are the boss.
If you are still convinced you are building your own kitchen cabinets, then you should get a measuring tape and a pad with pencil. I suggest you measure everything in your kitchen. It is a good idea to measure the back wall and do not forget to measure where the sink is and where any important appliances will be going. I like to go to some of those home improvement web sites and use their free design software to complete my own wonderful kitchen cabinet layout. This is a great way to see exactly what you will be getting. Often, these will allow you to make a list of things you need to purchase as well.
Now you must decide on a material. Wood or wood particle is usually a great choice and is honestly the most common. Metal is hard to work with in the home. I like a mixture of wood and particleboard. I thought I would go all out and get solid wood, but I found two problems: solid wood is expensive and solid wood is heavy. I found that a combination of the two is perfect for my needs. Of course, I had to get the hardware needed as well. I did this with my wood purchase. I like decorative handles; I like decorative borders.
Next, I made sure I had all the tools I needed. Okay, let me be honest here, all the tools my husband needed. Of course, he needed a few extra tools and the funny thing is I swear he did not use them when he created the cabinets. I think that was his payment for a job well done and I left it with that. Building your own kitchen cabinets is a time consuming chore and he deserved a new tool for his efforts. Anyway, if you do not have all the necessary tools, you may find it an expensive investment. However, if you only need a couple of extra tools than you are set to go.
Next, I suggest you set up a few weekends or a few days where this is all you do. You will need time to cutout, construct, and install your new cabinets. This is a great family task if you and your family can work together. I often find that my household is filled with way too many chiefs and that working together can be filed as a task in itself. However, working together to accomplish something special is often rewarding in and of itself.
Building your own kitchen cabinets is a task that is filled with joy, pleasure, and frustration. However, should you be lucky enough to get this task completed, the rewards are indescribable. You will have kitchen cabinets that will last a lifetime and memories that will be remembered every time you look at those kitchen cabinets.

Black Kitchen Cabinets: Simply Exotic and Elegant Nothing
By admin on December 6th, 2007
Black Kitchen Cabinets: Simply Exotic and Elegant
Nothing says more about our style than the appliances we choose for our home. The kitchen is perhaps the biggest holder of appliances in our home. Of course, many people do not consider a kitchen cabinet an appliance, but I think that most kitchen cabinets are indeed an appliance that can make or break that perfect kitchen dיcor. When I chose my kitchen cabinets, I chose to match the kitchen cabinets with my electronic appliances for a complete dיcor overload. Without my black kitchen cabinets, my kitchen would not look the same.
Okay, maybe you think black kitchen cabinets are a bit extreme. Well, in most cases I would agree. Black is such a dark color and usually society has placed such negative emotions and feelings on anything black that a black kitchen seems out of the question. I tell you that I love my black kitchen cabinets. Nothing is as mellow and comforting. No, I am not a reject of the Adams Family, but I do like things to be a bit on the dark side. These cabinets are perfect for my style and me.
Let’s start at number one. Kitchen cabinets show our style and our taste. We all understand that what we choose for kitchen cabinets is extremely important now and in the future. Well, take the color black now. What do we think of when we hear the word black. Usually, it is a negative word. However, I would like to add that black is a basic color that has no rival in the world of colors. Black is a cool color alone and of itself. Not a lot of colors can say that. In addition, everything goes good with black.
What do I get from my black kitchen cabinets? Well, I get beauty. I have black cabinets that have a brighter stenciled border. These are simply beautiful. I like these cabinets because they do not tend to look as dirty as quickly as the brighter colors. My black kitchen cabinets always look clean! In addition, they match my black appliances. I was torn between the metal looking appliances and the black. I saw black as being a more challenging color so my choice was one that would interest me.
Of course, black is not for everyone, but black is becoming a more common choice for home dיcor enthusiasts. Nothing is quite as personal a choice nor is anything as positive a choice. You can never go wrong with black kitchen cabinets. These are as basic as the white of yesteryear. Of course, white still has black beaten because of the negative condemnation that is associated with the word black.
When you want to shop for black kitchen cabinets, you may have a lot of luck if they have gained popularity in your local neighborhood. However, I found that it is often easier to purchase the cabinets as a white cabinet or unfinished and then paint them black yourself. This may save you time and money. Always remember, a smart shopper is a happy shopper.
